Went to the venue on a Saturday night a while back to support some local bands playing a free show...only to witness the staff rush the event due to the venue double booking the night with a private party (after the fact) AND THEN proceed to physically assault the drummer of a group packing up their gear on stage.
This was followed by the security staff shoving paying patrons out of the way OFF stage, just so he could kick through/damage the rest of the drummer's equipment, and continue to move the disrespect outside the bar with the entire group. ALL because, according to the staff, the drummer "wasn't moving fast enough" and also because: "it wasn't what he said, it was how he said it".
Then the "manager" man came outside, where I witnessed him proceeded to belittle and berate the band as a whole. The same band who had just brought in a full crowd of audience members buying their tasty but overpriced cocktails/beer/wine/food. He got petty calling them "nobodies", which is hilarious considering that's exactly how/why the whole block was built in the first place: riding on the coattails of so-called nobodies making a name for themselves (check your Hollywood punk/rock history bruh). But MY favorite moment? When the "manager" started mentioning THEIR band (which ended up having abysmal followings on social when I checked real-time) and began name dropping industry people to feel big.
Even though the staff + security continually tried their best to instigate another fight, further escalating the situation dangerously, the band was luckily smart enough not to take the bait and calmly said their piece and left. While the drummer's hand was badly damaged, I'm sure he healed over time, but I know for a fact he ended up having to cancel his paying church gig the next morning on Sunday. As well as other shows, practices, and recordings, I'm sure. Having now read similar stories in the reviews and heard many more in person from other LA natives...
I rarely leave reviews, let alone negative ones, but see you never @Harvard&Stone!! Wish YOUR band better treatment my dude and hope you check yourself in time before y'all get some seriously warranted legal action thrown in your faces. If not for the sake of your bar/kitchen staff, then 100% for the sake of the other passionate musicians you swindle into playing on your stage for peanuts and "exposure".
Love ~ Just another friendly neighborhood nobody
Read moreVery cool architecture and space. Very poor service. Actually, the worst service. I came early in the night, introduced myself and tried to start some conversation (I’m new to the neighborhood and wanted to get some advice). After getting a drink....I stood at the bar for almost TWO HOURS until either of the bartenders checked in. 1) bar was not busy, I came in before 9pm. 2) I looked at the two bartenders, repeatedly. They knew I was without drink 3) they picked up my empty glass soon after it was empty 4) I ended up digging out my water bottle to have something to sip on at the bar. 5) they routinely checked in on other select customer during this time and had down time to chat with escort her and others....with no eye or glance at me
Almost two hours after they first spoke to me. They asked me how was doing...I would have stayed, and wanted to—because I liked the bar—but .I didn’t feel welcome.
If they welcome you, I think this bar is going to be great for you.
I was not welcomed. I was forgotten. I’ll probably be back because it’s one of two places in my neighborhood that I’ve found. It Is a bar.....but I...
DO...
Read moreHarvard and Stone, the name and the dark, rocky attire of the bouncer outdoors already evoke what you might picture to find inside. Right at the east end edge of the non edgy-touristy Hollywood, lies this not so pricey, scarcely lit, vintage, grungy, easy going indie/country influence, live music bar that attracts an interesting combo of long term LA residents and lost tourists trying to evade the hustle and bustle of tourist traps on the strip. As a local, I can't complain. $3 beers (yes, cans, so what?) on a happy hour that goes until 9.30pm (on a Sunday)? Not too bad! And free live music? I'm in! (Although country, old or new, has never really been my cup of tea, but seems like they're not always restricted to that genre). And I'm pretty sure they had a BBQ going on in the back. So convenient location, cheap drinks for its convenient location and some hot faces for the singles out there (although it was pretty dark, but I wasn't drunk either!), pretty good combo!
I would definitely come back see if they can sell me on the music to fully win me...
