Made reservations for 2 nights at Hollywood City Inn off of other reviews I read. On a budget vacation with my 16 yr old son. We picked this hotel b/c of the lower price. It's really surprisingly nicer than I thought. It's not the greatest area, lots of grafitti, not the pretty kind either. Not too many places to walk to on the same block. But over two blocks away is both Hollywood Blvd, and walk of Fame... Starbucks and McDonald's are less than a block, and Walgreens. Upright citizens brigade is right around the corner too. We got a room on the 3rd floor of the building next to the pool. It's unattatched to the original property with the pool. It's newer, and all tiled floors. GREAT BEDS AND AIR CONDITIONING!!!!!! Obviously sleep is important, but to a 16 yr old it's everything. Great little wooden blinds that keep the sun out and the bright property light out too. You can hear doors closing and people's voices echo in the hallways, you can also hear the surrounding rooms turn on their showers, and how long they last. None of these are problems at all. The new tiles in the bathroom, and nice sink and tub. The first picture I posted is of the veiw from the 2nd queen bed in the 2 bedroom. They have a TV that's hard to watch from my bed, but no big deal. Microwave & little fridge with desk and chair. One small luggage holder and a very few hangers for clothes, but NO drawers for clothes. When you walk in the room, the floor is enough room for our really big luggage so we just keep it open on the floor. None of these things bother me at all and I'm extremely picky. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner, they only have bar soap and a small conditioning shampoo. Tons of towels, all sizes are available too. The burgundy walls are a bit ugly, but again, not a big deal. The biggest thing is the area. Not as close as I thought, but Uber here are fast and cheap! The guy at the front, owner I think, is a little testy when you don't understand him. Don't say what, what, what when he speaks, for each time you can't understand him. Just smile and he'll smile back. We arrived early and the room wasn't ready so he locked our bags in a storage room of the building we stayed in, that was super nice. No elevator. Just a flight of tiled stairs. If you're disabled, even those rooms below us have 4 stairs you need to climb to get into. Maybe in the pool building they're no stairs? There is a big ramp for wheelchairs to go to the office. Not sure...
Read moreI used my rewards points and booked through my card's travel center, so I paid nothing for this stay, and man. You really get what you pay for when you don't pay anything. Whole property smells like some teen who was about to be caught by his parents smoking weed, so he tried to cover it up with Febreze. Run down room with paper walls, a front door that's got an inch+ gap on all sides and looks like a strong wind can blow it down since one of the two locks are broken. A weirdly tall desk with a toddler size chair being the only furniture made it really awkward to do anything in the room besides lay in the bed, which was uncomfortable and some of the worst nights I've ever had. The water was absolutely disgusting, which I wasn't 100% sure was unique to the hotel or just LA in general, and the fridge was so small (and filled with what looked like mold) you could barely stock it with enough potable liquids to chill to last a day. The only thing preventing me from giving the room a zero is Google and the weirdly alright shower. Arguably one of the best hotel showers I've ever used, looked renovated within the last decade, unlike the rest of the property. Rest of the bathroom is falling apart and the toilet bowl and seat has this weird angle that makes sitting on it even less comfortable than the toddler chair in the main room. Also, my card's travel site promised breakfast, but the first thing you see checking in is a giant sign behind the front desk that says they don't serve or advertise a breakfast.
Maids were great, the desk guy(s? I couldn't see them when I checked out since it was through the barred glass on the side of the office, instead of inside) was/were nice enough, if short on words.
Hard to beat the location though, for what I was...
Read moreBy far the worst place I stayed in USA. I booked this place because expedia had some good reviews on this. First the person at the reception gave me the wrong direction how to get to their hotel. I was not going to make it a big deal since I did not want to ruin my holiday. But then when I checked in to the room:
I did not want to put a bad comment on you motel but the concierge's attitude changed my mind. At least hire some decent staff so people feel welcome. We pay you to provide us a service so please don’t forget that. It is your responsibility and commitment. I stayed at Days Inn at San Diego for a week (it was a 2 star too) but their staff was very polite, and trained to treat people with respect and that is what we expect. I came for work and holiday from Australia and so I stayed in few places before, but this was the WORST PLACE EVER. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS...
