To be honest I was looking forward to going to MemoryLook again after my first experience, but today’s visit just confirmed to me I will never get their Matcha Einspanner ever again. Matcha connoisseurs would likely be disappointed if you have high standards for matcha.

Matcha Einspanner is one of their most popular drinks (if not the most popular). I tried their coffee Einspanner latte before and it was good but now that I’ve learned to make my own matcha at home, I rarely go out to cafes to buy matcha (typically because I make a bomb solid matcha for cheaper at home).

My interaction with the cashier (they seemed new) was asking them what kind of matcha powder they used, they didn’t know and I asked if their matcha was bitter, and they said I could add sugar to the matcha. Side note the matcha I make at home is very high quality, smooth, strong flavor and not bitter. I opted for “less sugar” in my matcha drink and when I received my drink, I took a few sips and it was very bitter, dry mouth feel, and I tasted no sugar at all. I went up to the counter to apologize first and mentioned that it wasn’t sweet enough and I offered to pay extra to get more sugar. The same cashier who took my order looked around a bit blank faced, and told me that I would just have to recorder. There was no way I’m reordering a $8+ drink. I just said okay and went to sit back down and moved on, until I saw on the cupsleeve it wrote “unsweet” and I realized they took my order wrong. Very disappointing, I never go out for matcha but the one time I was very excited for one, I was let down :/ better luck next time...

This cafe isn't a place to study, which isn't a sin and why I am rating this place 3 stars. My issue comes from the fact that they are always sold out of stuff every time I come here. Like there is a sold out label on all of the signature drinks! I feel like they should track or be aware of how much they sell each week and increase their shipment of the ingredients they use. Maybe this is a sales tactic to seem more exclusive, but this has happened to me for all 3 times I went. Super 😐 moment.

Another thing that made me rate this place 3 stars was their creme brûlée donut. Maybe it was a different baker, but I was gifted a box of these creme brûlée donuts before. They were made the day of and was super delicious even without being refrigerated. The top was crunchy, the donut bread wasn't soggy from the cream, and it was honestly one of the best I've ever had. The one at Memorylook was the exact opposite of that. The melted sugar top was truly melted, and the crunch was quite minimal. The donut had soaked up a lot of moisture from the cream inside, which accentuated the oiliness that came from the donut. I'm glad I shared this with a friend, because I am sure that I wouldn't have been able to finish it.

If you want to study here, think twice. This isn't Memorylook's fault and it's a warning for people looking for a place to study, but there are a lot of influencers coming here and the customers come in waves. I'm not in the area often but when I am, I'm always looking for a great coffee or dessert shop to stop by before I head back to the OC. This has been on my list for quite awhile, mainly because of how hyped up their Matcha Einspanner drink is. First of all, what the heck is an einspanner? It was my first time hearing about it so I looked it up, and it's basically hot espresso topped with cold cream foam. I was intrigued and knew I had to try this out one day. What makes this spot even better is that they have their own parking lot and it's actually a pretty big lot with ample amount of space. They just earned a couple more brownie points from me just by having their own parking lot. Now, I'm sure due to its popularity, the lot does fill up eventually, but I happened to come in on a Sunday evening and got a spot easily. I love the simple aesthetic they have going on at this shop and I also love how they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. There were surprisingly a lot of people sitting outside, but I can see why it's such a great spot for large groups to catch up or to study. You have to try their most popular drinks which are the Matcha Einspanner and the Einspanner Latte. We opted for the Matcha and Vanilla Einspanner Latte. I was impressed by the vibrant and strong matcha flavor, and how strong that Vanilla Einspanner latte was; it is an espresso drink after all.
