Oh Lala, is this one of the most amazing pasta heaven or what? Been there couple of times for each time I was visiting LA. Was recommended by a friend of mine who's very into exploring new restaurants. Located in Little Tokyo downtown LA, Pasta E Pasta probably one of the restaurant hidden but not hidden if you know what I mean.
You would think Italian people makes the best pasta, but in this case, it might not. Pasta E pasta by allegro is owned by Japanese. Their pasta is uniquely flavored, has some fusion hits. Everything is always super fresh, I usually don't go back to the same restaurant when I'm on vacation, but Pasta E pasta definitely draws me back!
Their chicken gizzard soup was one of a kind, the gizzard was so soft, although I like them big chewy, but still very tasty.
Uni pasta is to die for, in both counts when I was visiting it taste awesome. The sweetness of uni, the perfect textured pasta, mixed to be one of the most amazing dish there. Squid ink pasta has been popular for the passing couple of years and the one made by Pasta E pasta as richly flavored, they definitely not stingy about the squid ink.
Even on the first time I had to order to go due to Covid, still taste delicious even when I open it when I was in the airport.
Everything is fresh and tasty. Highly...
Read moreI hadn't had Japanese Italian in almost twenty years, and was craving it. This was a great choice, and we had a very nice meal. The place was almost completely full, but the staff were efficient and friendly. The food came quickly.
The confit of gizzards was absolutely amazing, and the bread and salad were good. The pasta serving was larger than either of us could finish. We got the two house specialties: uni and cream spaghetti; and beef ragu. Both were excellent.
The pasta was al dente, and the tomato sauce was rich and oily, and a little on the sweet side (but very good, not sugary sweet). It was mild, but flavorful. The chunks of beef were perfectly tender, and delicious. I didn't try the uni pasta (sea urchin is about my least favorite thing) but it looked elegant, and I'm assured it was very good. It was garnished with a bit of raw urchin, and had cooked uni flavoring the sauce, mostly mild, with small hits of urchin.
I got the standard Asahi. But the drink menu was more extensive, with craft beer and wine. The only thing I might have hoped for was a more extensive selection of Japanese tastes on the menu. I was sort of hoping for shiso and nori spaghetti. But having said that, the menu was...
Read moreMy wife and I came to this restaurant today (01/14/2024) because a friend told me about the ambiance and the food. The food was good, but unfortunately, the customer service is as poor as the server’s manners (be aware of the pink short hair lady, Mirai). We waited for almost 1 hour for our food to arrived (only 2 plates of pasta) and we were one of the first customers of the restaurant at 5:00pm, so be prepared to wait for your food. When they finally brought the bread, it was cold and hard as a rock, that’s why we asked if we could have the other type of bread (ciabatta) because everyone else was having ciabatta but Mirai told us “We don’t have more” and left. After being waiting for 50 minutes we asked another server, Vincent, about our food status and he apologized for the situation and for Mirai passive-aggressive behavior. Thanks to Vincent we got our food in less than 5 minutes. My wife asked the server Mirai to speak with the manager about the situation and she bluntly said “there’s no manager”, turned around, and left. I really hope the manager read this review and share our experience with Mirai, hopefully, she will change her attitude or find a job that...
