Every year, our tradition at our company involves sharing the delectable pastries from Porto’s Bakery with our customers in Ventura County. Despite the distance to the Northridge location, we embarked on the journey, eager to continue this delightful tradition. However, last year, our experience left much to be desired. The chaos and disappointment we encountered made the early morning trek a daunting task.
This year, however, was an entirely different story—a complete turnaround thanks to Ana and her remarkable team. They’ve orchestrated a transformation that deserves immense recognition. Their efforts resulted in flawlessly fulfilling all five of our large orders without a single hiccup. Michelle’s organization and efficiency during online order pickups were invaluable, ensuring a seamless process every time.
The individuals, like Kallie and the entire team assisting us in loading our vehicle, embodied friendliness and approachability, making each encounter a pleasant start to the day. Their genuine warmth and positive attitude, even during the early hours, created an incredibly welcoming atmosphere.
In particular, Manuel Moreno’s exceptional customer care, communication skills, and adeptness at problem-solving deserve special commendation. Manuel’s dedication to ensuring a smooth experience played a pivotal role in our satisfaction. His efforts were truly appreciated.

I came in to pick up several cakes and pastries for my siblings and myself—we’re all September birthdays—and spent about $155 on items including a red velvet cake, tiramisu cake, milk & berries cake, fruit tart, and cheese & guava strudels.
The gentleman who initially helped me was polite and professional. However, what followed completely ruined my experience. As I was waiting, I saw a young lady carrying my fruit tart so carelessly that the filling was literally shifting on the platform and making contact with her shirt/wrist. That is unsanitary and completely unacceptable. I asked the gentleman if I could please have a different fruit tart, and he kindly agreed.
Instead of correcting the situation professionally, the young lady became visibly upset and started throwing the chocolate birthday plaques around and slamming them onto my cakes and fruit tart with no care at all. She continued handling items recklessly, even slamming the glass cake display doors twice in frustration. This was not just unprofessional—it was childish, hostile, and unacceptable behavior in front of both customers and coworkers.
When I spoke to the manager, I explained the situation, but frankly, the damage was already done. Spending over $150 for cakes and pastries should come with at least a baseline level of respect, care, and professionalism. Instead, I left disappointed and upset.
Porto’s is known for its quality, but this experience was anything but. Staff members who cannot handle customer feedback without throwing tantrums should not be in customer-facing roles—let alone handling food. Shortly after, I received an email stating there was an issue processing my order. Confused, I called the Northridge location to confirm the status of my order since I didn’t receive an order number. The customer service representative confirmed that my order didn’t go through, even though the payment was taken. I asked if they could accommodate me by placing the order over the phone or finding another solution. They simply told me the transaction was “stuck in the system” and that I’d be refunded within five days. I drove 10 miles out of my way, wasting 40 minutes, only to leave empty-handed. Days later, the charge was still pending in my account. I contacted both Portos and my bank after confirming the payment was processed. I had to open a ticket with my bank to get my money refunded. Portos only apologized and provided no accommodations—not a gift card, not expedited assistance, nothing. I found this lack of accountability unacceptable. Their system is deeply flawed: they take your money, fail to process your order, and leave you to deal with the consequences. If you ask me, this feels fraudulent. Their customer service is nonexistent, and their apology felt hollow. It’s not worth the hassle. Save your money and support a different bakery that values its customers.
