Salt & Straw — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Came here expecting some of the best ice cream LA has to offer so I was really excited. Coming back on a 10 day road trip, this was a really good place to stretch my legs! This place is extremely BUSY! Also parking is scarce so it will take some time to look for parking or you can just pay the rip off parking lot for $4 per 15 minutes right next to the area.

Anyways there is so many different and unique flavors and there is currently the Halloween special flavors for sale which some include crickets and the some that include pig's blood....yes you read that RIGHT, Pig's blood! That was interesting but definitely no thank you from my end. We got the great candycopia, chocolate gooey brownie, salted caramel cookie dough and a almond brittle milkshake.

The great candycopia was mixed with different candy bars mixed in. It was good at first and then got kinda boring after. The Gooey brownie was the saving grace of the whole thing. The brownie was soft and gooey with chocolate ice cream. The salted caramel cookie dough ice cream was okay. Nothing spectacular. And for $10, I was expecting something really good with the almond brittle but that was also average.

I can see the reason why people like this place and rave about it as there are so many different and unique flavors but being to so many different dessert places, I was expecting this to really be memorable but the flavors just fall flat. The taste is there but the problem is the taste gets boring rather too quickly and I just feel like I'm there to force myself to finish the rest by obligation...

We were in the area and looking for an ice cream spot on this really hot day.  The majority of the places nearby were vegan ice cream spots.  We needed something that kind of catered to both.  This place is a little hard to find but when we went there was plenty of street parking nearby and parking garages.        From the outside, it didn't look like much, but when walking in this place was huge.   It didn't really have much seating area on the inside but had seating areas outside that it shared with neighboring stores.  They had random stuff for sale, but in its own way, it was warm and inviting.  It was minimally decorated.  You walk further in, and you'll see the menu.  I was greeted right away and he was really nice.   I felt that at times, we weren't understanding each other, but it's whatever.   The ice cream hit the spot.

We ordered:

Chocolate Gooey Brownie - This is for the chocolate lover in you.  The gooey chunks of brownie just has you smackin'

Coffee & Love Nuts - I was churros to see if this would be similar to a jamoca almond fudge, but this was way better.  The chocolate covered pecans were a nice twist.  It was nice pick me up with the fresh waffle cone.

Peanut butter brittle caramel fudge - This was super peanut buttery. You can't taste the coconut water, which I was scared of. It tasted like a regular ice cream with bits of brittle.
