This place serves some of the best matcha in LA, especially their Ujigawa. The ceremonial matcha latte with oat milk is absolutely amazing, and their tonic matcha is hands down the best Iāve had. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, making every visit a pleasant experience. However, the service can be incredibly slowāIāve waited more than 30 minutes for just three beverages on multiple occasions (for both dine in and pick up). Despite this, the quality of the matcha keeps me coming back. If you have the time to spare, itās definitely worth the wait. Btw- if you buy an Ujigawa tin you will get a free beverage. Only found out recently after having bought so many of them. I told one of the staff member and did nothing. As I said, I keep coming back because their matcha is pretty good.
EDIT IN RESPONSE TO STEREOSCOPE: Please provide an email where I can send you all the details. I made the purchases through UberEats to pick up so I have all the receipts available. You can then validate by cross-referring with your inventory or even videos. In addition, I can describe the specific staff member who did nothing when I very surprised found out and told her that I wasn't given the complimentary drink with my previous purchases. I found out while buying a new tin. I can provide you all details of that instance, including date, estimated time of the day and the items I purchased, altogether with a description of her response and attitude. You can also verify all this with your videos/cameras.
I do not really want to make any trouble. All I want to say is that I have all the information and I am happy to send it to you.
As I have said, I always keep coming back despite the issues, because I love...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStereoscope is one of my fav cafes in LA. Their coffee roasting and drink crafting is top notch. There are usually 2-3 single origin roasts available for pour over. I found them to be on the lighter side of medium, but flavorful and less acidic than some 3rd Wave roasters like Blue Bottle and Heart. For flavored drinks, they use quality ingredients such as Jacobin salt for their salted caramel, real vanilla extract and Uji matcha for their flavored lattes.
Their interior is reminiscent of a modern art gallery, with concrete walls, high ceilings with ultraslim light fixtures across the length of the cafe and polished metal tabletops and stools. Their baristas are friendly, patient and are kind to discuss their drink menu and coffee beans.
Their parking can be a bit tricky. There is metered street parking but itās difficult to score a spot. There is a parking garage behind the cafe, but they charge in 15 minute increments. So you can rack up a fat ticket in an hour. Other than the parking situation, I wholeheartedly recommend Stereoscope for their excellent coffee and drinks as well as their...
Ā Ā Ā Read morei never write reviews, especially not to be a hater. i love cafes. i love a good matcha. iām not opposed to trendiness. but this place just crosses so many lines with the whole hoity-toity la cafe thing.
there are no outlets for your laptops. the āfurnitureā is rife with sharp edges - itās clear that it was chosen to match a trendy minimalist aesthetic, as opposed to be lived in or sat on. if you pull the chairs or stools across the concrete floor, it makes a loud scraping noise. the wifi is shoddy. the whole atmosphere reeks of form over function ad infinitum. the coffee is overpriced and just fine. it is all the worst parts of la wrapped up in one cafe - corporate, shallow, bleak, but prides itself on serving āceremonial matcha.ā
if you work in advertising and live in a company apartment, when you die this will be limbo. not good enough to be decent, not bad enough to be memorable. just soulless and nothing enough to be my least favorite cafe...
