We were visiting CA from out of state and had a mixed team of 5 players, varying from a first-time player to an escape room creator. The room we played, Magic Kingdom, was really beautiful. The tech was awesome and there were some cool surprises. Because this room has no locks and a lot of tech, I felt like some of the thrill was missing because the cause-and-effect wasn’t clear. Several times we opened things but had no idea how or when it happened. I felt a little bit robbed of the “aha” moments which make escape rooms so much fun. The background music was way too loud and it was chaotic for us spread among several rooms and trying to communicate as a team. And I hated that there was no time clock we could see. Our game master was nice enough in the lobby but there were two staff running five games at one time and several times she didn’t reply to our request for help or she didn’t know where we were in the game. It’s pretty standard in the industry to have one game master per game and that was frustrating. The main reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that she got pretty snotty with me over the walkie, repeatedly pre-reprimanding me about something she was afraid I was going to do - but didn’t. At $33/pp this was one of the more expensive escape rooms I’ve played. We certainly paid enough to have our own devoted game master. The neighborhood is dodgy & the lobby was kind of a wreck but the room really was pretty and overall we had fun. The first timer was most...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I signed up for the Illusions room but when we got there he said there were issues with some of the puzzles and asked if we’d want to do the tomb one instead. So we did that which was fine, but for about 25ish mins in the room we couldn’t figure out how anything went together, so we asked for a clue and he told us to look in a certain spot for a translator but nothing was there. It was the first place my boyfriend looked when we walked in. So basically we just wasted 25 minutes looking for something we should’ve had right from the beginning. Then we solved something and a door was supposed to open automatically but it was stuck so we were walking around trying to figure out what we missed to cause the door to not open. Come to find out it was just stuck. It was fun tho, just a bummer having things missing and pieces of the escape room not working properly. Now we’ll never know for sure whether or not we would have...
Read moreMy group of six completed the World of Illusions escape room here. It was circus-themed but not the clown/juggler kind. I've been to other Maze Rooms locations, and they have not disappointed! The game master here was friendly but busy. He was managing multiple rooms at the same time.
I think World of Illusions may have been one of the top escape rooms I have done. The room was cool with cool puzzles. Some of the puzzles take time to work, so I recommend being patient. It's those types where if it's old, it lags. [Some people in my group repeated some actions in succession, which may have taken even more of our time.] I did cut my finger on the bike by accident though.
World of Illusions had a level 3 difficulty. I thought pharaoh's tomb sounded interesting, but it was a level 2. I may consider trying that on a...
