I have stayed at Hotel Hwood numerous times over the years, but my recent experience has compelled me to speak out. Although the property claims to be renovated, mildew is still visible through the walls, and the smell of cigarette smoke lingers deeply—echoes of a building long overdue for true restoration. The back view reveals a rundown homeless shelter where drugs, sex, and violence are clearly visible. This is no place for families or children.
Since the change in management, the atmosphere has become cold, unwelcoming, and downright hostile toward paying guests. On the morning of June 8, 2025, I was told by a male front desk clerk that I could not check in early unless I paid an extra $20 per hour. This fee was not listed anywhere in the hotel’s policy and appeared to be a made-up rule. When I calmly suggested we should treat each other with more kindness and incorporate more of God into our actions, his reply was, “It’s not God, it’s your luck.” That moment shifted my entire view—not only of the clerk, but of the management and the values (or lack thereof) that now guide this establishment.
He initially made me believe early check-in would be possible, only to reverse his decision with a dismissive, egotistical attitude. I had already paid for the room a day in advance. To be denied access to a fully paid room is not only unprofessional—it’s completely unethical.
As for the conditions of the hotel: • The customer service is cold, dismissive, and lacking any empathy. • The sheets are stained. • The bathroom smells like used diapers. • The blinds no longer provide privacy and are falling apart. • Sunlight leaks through the front door frame. • The television barely works—only 2 or 3 channels function. • The carpet looks like it was recycled from a 1990s Shoney’s buffet. • The entire property feels like the final days of a drained aquarium.
Hotel Hwood should be removed from all third-party booking platforms due to its declining quality, lack of accountability, and poor customer treatment. It operates under an outdated, arrogant management style that ignores the basic principles of hospitality. A successful business is built on service, respect, and care for its customers—not luck, manipulation, and unnecessary power plays.
I strongly encourage others to think twice before booking here. No one deserves to be disrespected, especially when paying for a service that fails to meet even the most...
Read moreCheap hotel that does the bare minimum. They advertise free parking however it is extremely limited and you cannot park there until check in time at 2pm. You also cannot check in 1 minute earlier than 2pm or leave your luggage there beforehand.
After two flights and a total of 18 hours travel with two small kids aged 1 and 6 any kindness would have be truely appreciated. We kept busy for a couple of hours after our flight (we landed at 8am) to give the property as much time as possible to prepare for us. around 12:30pm we thought we would try our luck. We were turned away and told we could not leave our rental car and luggage on their property. I truely understand that there is limited parking however at that time surely everyone had checked out and it would have been nice to leave our car and take the children to get lunch and stretch their legs. Anyone who has been to the area knows it’s very difficult and expensive to find a park. When the time to check in came they did not acknowledge me until about 2:05pm despite me standing there at 2pm sharp (my husband stood holding our 1 year old in the shade of a tree as the car was an inferno, time goes slowly when you’re tired and uncomfortable) they then let me know that the room would be another 15 minute wait to prepare. I understand that things don’t always go to plan but here we were told we could not leave our car or belongings or check in a minute before 2 and then they ask us to give them the courtesy to wait. I was asked to wait in the car that was parked in the sun on a hot day when it’s past our check-in. They did not invite us to stand in the office. Owner had Indian/Pakistani heritage which seems common for this area. We stayed another 4 nights down the road in the Quality Inn ran be similar owners who were a lot more hospitable. Surely no matter your cultural background you would have the compassion to care for your guests including young children with more empathy? It’s fine to stay here for a night or two the location is great but expect the bare minimum and the old saying ‘you get what...

We booked this property because it seemed to be the most convenient option near to the major sites. However, everything about this property is terrible. Our original room seemed adequate when we arrived however we soon realised the bed was covered in bed bugs. When we went to speak to the manager about this, he told us that there were no bed bugs in his motel and to show him proof, which we then told him to check the room. He told us nothing could be done and that he found no bed bugs, there was one last room available which he moved us to. This second room had no chain lock, the AC was broken, the toilet window would not close and backed onto a side street and due to the fact there was no lock, the janitor walked into our room at 9am the next morning uninvited disturbing us.
After everything we cut our stay short from 3 days to 2 despite no chance of a refund from the manager. We spent the following 2 weeks washing and re washing our clothes and dealing with multiple bed bug bites during our travels. I would have given even some kudos if they hadn't lied about the bed bugs and offered some kind of refund for our last night but they clearly did not care. It is not worth the convenience of the location to deal with all that, not to mention the area itself does not feel safe.
Do yourself a favour and pay a little extra to avoid this...
