Read moreI eat a lot of sushi ranging from grocery store bought to fine dining and I have to say without a doubt this was both the best experience and Japanese food I have ever had.
Sushi Tama was recommend by two independent friends members living in LA.
The restaurant is quite small and intimate which I love, it is not trying to wow you with an over stimulating and ‘instagramable’ decor, rather the restaurant lets the amazing knowledge of its staff and the phenomenal food do the wow-ing.
The waiter we had was fantastic, after looking over the menu we decided to leave our order in his capable hands and to say what he picked was 10/10 would be an understatement.
Once the food began being served everyone in our party was continually impressed with each dish, the waiter took the time to explain each dish and how it was to be eaten. The star of the show for me were the three different cuts of tuna sashimi differentiated by fat content.
This was my final night in LA and coming to Sushi Tama was the cherry on top of an already fantastic trip.
I couldn’t recommend this restaurant anymore and I think the glowing review reflects this. If you go trust in the waiter’s judgement as they will choose dishes you may not which only enriches the overall experience!
Also a big thank you for the Matcha ice cream for my birthday that was a lovely touch.
On a side note they have a Japanese ‘high-tech’ toilet not sure what they’re called but it truly does...
Read moreAfter hours of research, I booked Sushi Tama for this year's Valentines' dinner. Let me preface by saying that this is the one of the best traditional omakase meal we had. I want to focus on traditional because chef Yoshimoto is all about the best ingredients, and he claims +90% of ingredients are from Japan. Most of all, wow, these are tasty sushi! And rice was prepped perfectly: not too sticky, good firmness, and just a tiny hint of vinegar. Omakase consists of a wide variety fish and cooking styles.
A few notes: omakase took about 1.5 - 2 hours
there are two pricings for omakase: sushi counter is $150 and table is $100. When you sit at a table and ordered an omakase, all food will arrive at once in a box. But if you reserve counter seats, you will get sushi counter price of $150. Chef Yoshimoto is prepping your dishes right in front of you. He will set each sushi in front of you when it's ready.
it was interesting to learn that chef Yoshimoto isn't a fan of omakase. He didn't have such option when he first opened the store. Eventually he added it to the menu. He is all about eating the fish you like (tuna for him).
Omakase bento box is no longer available. He is all about the whole dinning in experience.
Make sure you bring your vaccination card & ID. They will check it at the entrance
restrooms have Toto bidet
music is kinda loud in the background, not the best place to...
