Don's food is usually delicious! There is only one thing, it seems to have a spicy taste, fried or grilled. I would love to suggest a choice of a little milder version on the menus. A choice of regular or slightly mild. Not completely mild just slightly. For people with stomach issues who love seafood! Also for the little ones. The atmosphere is great for children or adults. They have a sports bar to the left of the tables perfect for singles who want good food drinks and a great atmosphere. They even have outside seating. The prices are reasonable and the etouffee is delicious! Highly recommend. The waitress staff is very attentive to your needs. In all the many times we have eaten here we only had one experience where the waitress was not good at all. You don't stop and drop food and rush off without asking.... is there anything else I can get for you? No cocktail or tartar sauce was given, we had to get up and find someone to get it also extra napkins. Sad one bad apple. Do I recommend Don's DEFINITELY!!! One thing I forgot to mention, I believe it's the dinner room supervisor, it's the one in the tight short skirt. Please wear a size bigger, you can see your underwear lines and your tummy is poking out. A slight bend reveals everything . It looks tacky for a family restaurant. Just a size bigger would look fabulous on her. I love short skirts but you can tell it's way too small. She does a fantastic job of making sure everything runs smoothly in the dinning room and works really hard her work ethics is above and beyond! Thank you for the wonderful food and the great people...
Read moreI was passing through Louisiana and this was my experience with Don’s as an out of towner.. Food was good and my mimosa was fine. The manager on staff Sunday Sept 22, 2024 around 10:45am was unprofessional. This person watched me and my friend from across the restaurant and relayed messages through the server. Extremely unprofessional. That automatically causes the manager to come off as fainthearted. Most food and hospitality establishments are comforting and friendly to all guests. From my travels and experiences, whenever the manager so happens to be on the floor, they would walk around the lobby greeting customers and checking on operations. I noticed me and my friend did not look like 95% of the customers that patronized the restaurant, which is in the middle of Louisiana. The manager did not make us feel comfortable or welcomed, watched us like an exhibit, and unprofessionally sent the server to do his job. If you’re shy don’t work with people or in customer service. Unless he wasn’t shy and the manager is…behind the times... Maybe he didn’t intend to come off that way but he definitely showed it. I still left an 18% tip to the server regardless. Honestly, I’d rather go to the thousands of other Cajun restaurants in the area than back to Don’s in Covington, LA. I’m from Alabama and even THEY treat visitors properly and with hospitality regardless of demographic. Moral of the review is come talk to your customers and try not to send servers to do a...
Read moreThis review was about a year ago. Edited for correction. The food is good, but the old saying you get what you pay for didn’t seem to apply here. We ordered the stuffed catfish. I called the waitress over and told her we ordered the stuffed catfish, but there was no stuffing in or on my catfish. I lifted the top piece of catfish and all their was a thin crust of what looked like batter to me. She responded THAT was the stuffing. I checked the other order it did have what could be stuffing only about a quarter of an inch thick and maybe 2 inches long with the rest being a pretty flat piece of crust. She did offer to have more stuffing added, but said no thank you. I now wish I had taken a photo to post with my review, so you could see I’m not exaggerating. I have never experienced this in any other restaurant when I ordered stuffed any kind of fish.
Hey, folks we’re talking about $19 a plate with 2 pieces of fish and 2 not all that generous sides. The waitress asked me when she took our order, did we want crab sauce over our food. I know the old “up charge” deal without being warned in the past and then see it on the bill. I asked her what extra would that cost, she said $8 !!! We passed on that. I wonder how many drops of sauce we would...
