One thing my fans have learned about the Fat Man is that he loves a good burger. They are one of my favorite things in this world. So, we stopped at Burger Boy while out and about in Louisville, KY. Burger Boy is a low-key joint open 24/7 for burgers, deli sandwiches & classic American breakfast fare.
I tried the Old Louisville Burger, made with a ¼ burger, bacon, over easy egg, and provolone. The burger was cooked perfectly, with crispy edges and a juicy interior. It could have used a touch more seasoning, but it was tasty. While out of the bag, the bun was fresh, and the bun-to-burger ratio was good. The veggies were fresh and crispy, the egg yolk was perfectly runny, and the bacon was crispy and chewy. The cheese was melted over the burger and offered a salty and very subtle sweetness to the bite, cutting through the creamy egg yolk and saltiness of the bacon.
I also ordered the Chili Cheese Fries. This dish comes with cheddar cheese and house-made chili and is served over seasoned fries. The fries were cooked well, and the seasoning added to the flavor of the chili. It was full of meat, tomatoes, and beans. Their chili was thick with excellent taste, a touch of sweetness, and a good peppery heat finish. The cheddar cheese was spot-on gooey and added a great saltiness to each bite. The fries were adequately coated in both cheese and chili.
My wife went with the ¼ burger fully dressed in cheese and seasoned fries. Again, the seasoned fries were cooked to a crunchy outside with a soft inside, and the seasoning tasted like a BBQ-type seasoning, sweet with a bit of heat on the end. The burger is cooked perfectly with crispy edges while still being juicy. The veggies are fresh and crunchy, and the mayo helps cut through everything while giving some needed creaminess to each bite.
Burger Boy has an extensive menu that includes breakfast and late-night eats. The servers were lovely, and the food came up fast. The Fat Man says that Burger Boy is Fat Man Approved...
Read moreI've gone to Burger Boy since Juanita was standing at the griddle licking her lips. However, it had been 5+years since my last visit. Around 3:30a after helping a friend move it was my idea to order from Burger Boy to pick up. Call #1-voicemail, call #2-phone answered, yet, immediately hung up on, call #3-a clearly disgruntled employee took my order of 2-¼ pound patty melts with fries and drinks which was paid for via credit card over the phone. Upon arrival I was greeted by the usual 4am types. Youngins, eyes blood shot, with volume level boarder lining rock concert. My order was ready and bagged by one of 3 visibly distraught employees. A request for ketchup packets was acknowledged with an audible grunt, yet, supplied in abundance. Nineteen packets to be exact. (Cue food cost discussion) Once home, to go container opened, and the following was revealed: A torn in half hamburger patty cool to the touch. This was covered with a generous portion of oiled, and raw chopped green pepper and onions. This was covered by ⅔ of a slice of unmelted cheese. All this between 2 thick slices of Texas toast which only one slice was toasted on one side. The fries were at an acceptable temperature yet had seemingly been fried the past weekend and kept on life support until I placed my order. It is my opinion that if you are offering a "patty melt" the key would be melted cheese. My suggestion for the description of this menu item would be: 2 hamburger patty halves prepared in house yesterday. This topped with peppers and onions directly from the food service package carefully dredged in the finest Wesson oil. Topping this is cooler chilled cheese all between thick bread option of one slice toasted on one side. Served with seasoned fries from yesterday. All this prepared in 30 minutes!!! I'd like a replacement...err...money back... Much like the cheese on my "patty melt" I believe I'll be left out...
Read moreThis place had the worst customer service I'd ever experienced. Our waitress only gave us our drinks and then disappeared and never took our order. The line cook forced the host take it after a 20 minute wait (he could've taken it much earlier but he was hiding near the bathrooms on his phone). We were sitting at the bar right next to the register and in front of the grill line, by the way Our food was made relatively quickly but our waitress never served it to us and instead of giving us our food (cause we were literally 2 feet from the grill line) they let it sit there for 10 minutes. They then took half of our order to the wrong table. My friend and I received our food after they finally found our table (LITERALLY RIGHT BEHIND THEM!!!) but the other 2 members of our party had to wait another 10 minutes for their order; which was already done but was just left sitting there. We told the host that our food was sitting there getting cold and he said "Yeah, I know." And he walked away to go play on his phone again. When we finished our food we were forced to wait 20 minutes for a check that never came. The host refused to give us our check, even after the manager told him to do so, so we were forced to slap down cash and leave. This was not just our group having a problem because 2 other groups of people complained about the same thing while we were there. Long story short, the host was a lazy incompetent pathetic-excuse of an employee, our waitress was non-existent, the assistant line-cook didn't know how to deliver food 2 feet away or read numbers, and the manager was a push-over and a lousy leader. I'd rather get food poising than ever step foot in this so-called...
