Hidden Gem in Lyons, Colorado! 📍442 High Street. Hours: 7am-4pm daily. Moxie Bread Co. is a wonderful small-town bakery and cafe. They craft their rustic breads and pastries with locally sourced heirloom grains. They also sell flour freshly milled from these heirloom grains. Their mission is to provide an alternative to the industrialized food system by preserving a protected grain chain that uplifts local organic and regenerative farmers. They have a deep commitment to the health and wellbeing of the local community! #colorado #bakery #rockymountainnationalpark

I'm not a fan of bad reviews, so I'll keep from leaving 1 star. I've been to this spot many times in the past, but when it was under a different name. I'll start with the good- The place has a really comfortable sitting area where you can hang out and enjoy your drink & food. While we were there, we saw several people on their laptops. They have pastries, bread, and drinks. They sell coffee by the bag, which is convenient if you're wanting your coffee at home or elsewhere. The store also has different types of swag for you to buy. On to the bad- That would start as soon as we tried to order a coffee. Not a real difficult order. The staff stared at us as if were weren't even speaking, and after we stated what we wanted one more time, one of the employees said that he couldn't hear us. 3 feet away and we repeated the order again. We sat down to wait for our coffees. That turned into a 10 minute deal. I guess we were expecting someone to tell us that our coffees were ready, but we were mistaken. They sat on the end of the counter for upwards of 5 minutes. My mistake for not checking. Finally, the young man that couldn't hear our order earlier came out and basically whispered "Do you want your coffee? It's been at the counter for a while." Hopefully, they were just having an off day. For the sake of other customers, I really hope that was the case. Strange vibe. As I said earlier in the review, really comfy sitting area. They also have a lot of outdoor seating, for when the weather is good.

A little slice of Boulder in Lyons… …and that may not be a good thing for a lot of people. Moxie is a trendy, comfortable “3rd wave” coffeehouse and bake shop. They have the best espresso in town, and their baked goods are second only to the St. Vrain Market. As a harbinger of expensive coffee, long wait times, and pretentious patrons that are slowly taking over Lyons (myself included), Moxie is a mixed blessing for the town. Mountain biking and trail running tourists are likely to stop by and spend their money, and it is already becoming a gathering place for some locals; both of which are welcome things. There’s just something decidedly hip and trendy that has me a little disenchanted. That, and the fact that they open only at 8 AM takes a star away from this rating. UPDATE 7/2022: gotta hand it to Moxie for adjusting their hours to accommodate early birds and opening their doors at 6. The staff are decidedly friendly and the wait times have improved. They give me coffee in a to-go cup about 50% of the time, though I always specify “for here”.

I rarely give reviews. Only if the entity is particularly good or bad do I take the time. I’m a long time lyons resident and I’m always hoping for local businesses to do well since that benefits both the business and those of us who live here. So I was excited back when Moxie opened. After giving them a few months after opening at the original location to work out the kinks I went in in the early afternoon. It wasn’t busy and I was one of one or two other potential customers in the store. Staff were busily working away behind the counter. I stood at the counter for ten uncomfortable minutes waiting for someone to notice me let alone ask if I wanted to order. In that entire time not one of the staff gave me eye contact or otherwise gave any indication I was there. For me that kind of thing makes me never want to go back to a place so I didn’t for a few years. Fast forward to today and I thought I’ll give them another try. They have been in the new location for a while and I see lots of people there when I drive by during open hours. The good… very nice decor, I was greeted immediately, several people seemed to be enjoying their time there. The bad… a 16oz latte was $6 w/out tip, latte was lukewarm (blech) and they had no breakfast sandwiches. Actually no food with bread since apparently that doesn’t arrive until after 8:30am daily (that’s what the staff tools me) which to me seems strange since 8:30am isn’t very early for many people. Long story to say I won’t be going back. My advice…. Go to the mud hut on the east edge of town. A latte is cheaper, it’s always piping hot, you don’t have to get out, and they are always fast,...

If you haven't had the pleasure of visiting Moxie Bread Company in Lyons, you're truly missing out on a gem! This delightful bakery is a haven for anyone who appreciates incredible pastries and artisanal bread. From the moment you step inside, the warm, inviting atmosphere and the tantalizing aromas will have you hooked.

Let’s talk about our favorite pastries. The lemon juniper cruffin is a must-try; it's a perfect balance of zesty and aromatic flavors that dance on your palate. The butter croissant is simply divine—flaky, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth good. If you're in the mood for something sweet, the caramel apple Danish is a heavenly treat that combines a perfect blend of sweet and tart with a rich, buttery pastry.

And let's not forget the raisin challah bread—it's beautifully braided and has the perfect texture, making it a fantastic choice for breakfast or a special treat any time of day.

What truly sets Moxie apart is the incredible staff. They are not only friendly and welcoming but also passionate about their craft. Every visit feels personal, and you can tell that they genuinely care about providing a top-notch experience for their customers.
