“Let's Eat” Review of Oliver's!
Wednesday's are a special Drinks Menu night with 50% off select wines and whiskeys. This is a perfect excuse to head downtown Midweek!
We were greeted by our Bartender, Jordan. Full disclosure, he had responded to a previous post and told me about the Wednesday Happy Hour from 5PM to 9PM. When I went to the Facebook Page and the Website, I was instantly intrigued. So here we are!
Cucumber Basil Martini $12 Being a Martini fan, I saw this on the specials menu and immediately ordered it. It's got this perfect summer fresh vibe to it with a fun twist of Fresh Cracked Pepper and Fresh Basil. Sidenote, the 2nd one was as good as the first. Anyone's guess how much better they get lol
Tempura Cauliflower $13 This appetizer is deep fried to an entirely different level of everything your mind is imagining. It's crispy, but lite. The sauce is sweet and spicy. But it also has fresh elements. I cannot wrap my head around the way I want to describe this dish. All I can say is, ya'all need to order this dish with absolutely NO expectations because it will blow you away. One of my fav Appetizers I've ever had. Hands down.
New Strip with Mashed Potatoes and Gouda Mac and Cheese $28 We ordered the steak Medium Rare and that's exactly how it came out. Cooked to perfection with some sort of in-house seasoning concoction that we can't figure out what's in it but after a few bites, we stopped caring because it was just so good. The Mac and Cheese is thick, creamy and tastes like the smoked gouda should.
Filet Mignon with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans which was the veggie of the Day $40.00 I asked for Medium Well and that's exactly how it came. Grilled and seasoned to absolute perfection. Whatever seasoning they're using is clearly homemade and should be copyrighted. It's THAT good.
We tried all different sauces including Garlic Butter, Bleu Cheese Cream and Au Poivre. One of the fun parts about ordering all 3 is judging your eating mates on which sauce is the best. (For me, the Bleu Cheese Cream was the clear winner despite my opponent being the Au Poivre) They were all amazing!
Summing It Up… Let's face it. Wednesday's aren't a night that everyone looks forward to but making Oliver's part of your hump day ritual is definitely something to look forward to! The food, the drinks and the staff are guaranteed to make your Midweek a lot better.
The Bottom Line… I feel that Oliver's is one of those Downtown Gems that should NOT be missed. Do yourself a solid… go to Oliver's on a Wednesday night and take advantage of this awesome mid week...
Read moreI was offered an apology, but the purpose of this review is to allow people to make up their minds whither they would like to try or not.
The food was actually really good...the service was far from good....I came in at lunch time ,somewhat busy, had three people walk by me at least 7 times and NEVER SAY A WORD TO ME..Not one word..hi, welcome to olivers, someone will be with you in a moment....NOT ONE WORD!!
Is anyone so busy that they can't say one word to anyone...they literally walked by 7 times....
When I got seated, one of the people who walked past me,was my server. Once I got out of there,I emailed them...got an apology...but those are hollow words ....it only takes a minute to make or break a loyal customer...
Ok what was I asking for...just to acknowledge someone as a customer....you work for gratuity, tips...that is how you get one.
It wouldn't have hurt any of those three to have just acknowledge anyone. And the guy who was my waiter...well he didn't get anywhere what I tip for good service...
There are plenty of people who enjoy olivers...and I have awhile back and may once again...but I will not excuse poor service... Too many other places to enjoy a good lunch or dinner.
I know all too well that places are having a hard time finding people to work...I get it ....but do I have to accept poor service and...
Read moreStunning achievement not only for the city of Macon but stands on its own as a top notch Bistro. It outclasses like places in much larger cities. Warm and inviting corner location, dandy booth inside and tables outside although ate at the bar under the catering watch of bar maiden, Sarah who is an understated gem. She loves her craft and frankly when looking at menu it sells itself and she knows it. The sweet potato frites like none I've ever tasted. The redfish risotto was in a class by itself. The dip we had with homemade baguette it evades me if it was garlic and gruyere or not but it was also stand alone. Sarah sold us on their version of Moscow mules they hit and hit again with exquisite, unnexpected mug along with garnish presentation. The finale was the banana fosters cheesecake and yes Sarah, we thank you. Oliver's has achieved something remarkable here. I felt my palate and senses got a bit of a jolt and rebirth which I honestly did not expect but it's the caliber of food Macon deserves and arguably Oliver's is the current height of unstuffy fine dining and will be hard to match for some...
