I have been to this place twice so far. The first time was for brunch. Their brunch menu is unique but small. I had the grit cakes with chicken. It was an interesting dish. I am undecided if I would order it again. If it came with more chicken then I probably would. The little potato patties were delicious! My bf ordered the breakfast sandwich. It was okay. I liked mines better. On both dishes, the big brown thing is the grit cake. The grits are good. I usually don’t like savory grits but I enjoyed these. The service was good. It was busy so the service was a little slow but she did her best to make sure we had drink refills and napkins. We also ordered the beignets which is only 25 cents cheaper on the brunch menu than the regular menu (the waitress charged us the non brunch menu price but it wasn’t a big deal. If it will be a big deal for you, check your ticket before paying). The beignets were okay. I would order them again because it’s the only place I know selling beignets but if you ever been to New Orleans, you know this place is a close second. They put some butter on the beignets or at the bottom of the bowl. Which can be fine but it throws off the taste in my opinion. The butter tastes like I can’t believe it’s not butter. Again, I would order it again because I love beignets. Good place to try if you are looking for New Orleans like food. Oh they also had a band playing which is cool. We sat on the inside and could kind of hear the band still. Obviously, sit outside if you want to hear the band better. They play right in front of the restaurant door.

Parish is one of those restaurants you want to love but falls short because of it’s atmosphere. Nestled in the heart of downtown Macon, it’s convenient and has a large dining area. The food is slightly overpriced for the area however the quality and presentation of the dishes are better than most. While touting itself as a creole style establishment I had a hard time finding many dishes that spoke of the true French influence. There was a live musician playing just inside the doorway at the front of the bar area. While this may have been a great addition for evenings, at 11am on a Saturday, it ruined our brunch. The music was entirely too loud even at our table in the rear of the dining area. This made a fun relaxing outing difficult because we were constantly having to lean over the table and speak in elevated levels to hear conversation. The waitress’s performance was excellent and she was quite attentive. The restroom however was in shambles meaning someone did not follow up on whoever was responsible for its care. The dirty restrooms, overly loud music, and the lack of true namesake dishes leads me to believe Parish is really a regular bar that serves food versus a restaurant that sells alcohol. This is the reason for the lack of the fifth star. I would probably return for a different occasion versus morning brunch with out of town family.

As someone Louisiana born and reared, it peaks my curiosity when restaurants outside of Louisiana claim Creole and Cajun fare, so I had to give the place a try before heading back to Atlanta. The live musicians and bar at the entrance gave the place an energetic vibe. We were seated in comfortable booths toward the back, which was just fine because it offered us a bit of privacy. I chose a shrimp and crawfish pasta (dish reminded me of mac and cheese with seafood but was well seasoned and flavorful), crawfish "gumbo," and the seafood dip and chips as an appetizer. My littlest one had the Lil' Shrimp Basket which she said was like most restaurant shrimp baskets she'd had, with the exception of the shrimp being a little better than most. My oldest had red beans and rice, which she described as being a bit dry and not too reminiscent of home but satisfying, nonetheless. According to her, the sausage helped the dish substantially. The seafood dip and chips weren't worth the price. The menu described the chips as seasoned, but I tasted none. The only flavor was the dip, which began to taste weird after a few chips. Or maybe it was the chips. My "gumbo" which contained NO roux and seemed to be more of a clear, gelled substance, arrived with scorched crawfish set on top of a bed of rice (see photos). If presentation reflected taste, this would have been everything, but it didn't and it wasn't. I informed the waitress that the crawfish were all burnt and pointed them out on my plate. She said she'd remove the dish from the check, but when the check arrived, it was still there. Twice I brought this to her attention. She finally came back to inform me that on an almost $70 check, the owner wasn't willing to remove the item because I hadn't said anything earlier, when I had, and it was evident from the burnt crawfish on the saucer. I requested she bring this to his attention. He offered a manager's discount, which was half of the cost of the "gumbo" that's not really gumbo. Not in the mood to argue a few more dollars and figuring the best arguments are had by making better future decisions on where I spend money, I decided to let it go. Paid the check, gave her a nice tip because she deserved it for the attentive service she offered, and we were out. Up until the check incident, I wanted to recommend the place, not because the food reminded me of home, but because it could be defined as decent Georgia fare with a twist and the live music was a nice touch.

Today was my first time visiting. I was super excited to try the food. We were greeted immediately and seated. The server Susan walked over got our drink order. Then our real server comes inside from smoking her cigarette and swiftly seat at the table with us. Hands all over the table... Absolutely I have a problem with this. I requested the woman who came to us first to continue serving us. We sat for a while waiting for her to return. Finally I just got up and asked someone to inform her we were ready to order. The seafood dip was delicious. The Shrimp Cajun pasta came piping hot and was very tasty. The Chicken Cajun Pasta I ordered came a little cool. It took a super long time for her to come back and see if everything was okay. While sitting waiting for things to happen an employee shows up for work. He quickly get prepared for his shift. A few minutes go by and then he sit down to eat. He goes from eating to seating people and digs in his ear and never washes his hands or use hand sanitizer. The servers aren't attentive enough. The food was great everything else was horrible. I was convinced to try them again because I was looking at this place with a server eye and not a regular patron. With a new start and open mind, I gave a it a real chance. The service was okay, I could tell he was a new server. He did his best to answer questions and if he didn't know he found out and I appreciate that. Definitely worked well with small kids and made them feel important. I'm just going to say I am not a big fan of their menu options. Some of the ingredients the kitchen went way too heavy on. Helpful tip, just because someone doesn't want something does not mean load their plate up with garnish or go heavy on another ingredient. Too much ruins the dish. The apps were good and hot, no complaints there.

Been here several times since moving to macon.. the visit before last a roach came out from the booth seat .. gave it away as the door is open all the time and it may have gotten in that way.. well came to eat last night had red beans and rice and to my surprise 2 bugs were in the rice..one alive and one dead the server came took the plate away the older fe.ale manager stopped by the table and jokingly said here in Georgia those bugs are native here .. regardless i didnt eat even a bite of the food and my husband's plate wasnt touched ..i asked them to remove the plates and she did.. now the bull arrives .. i was charge for both meals aerver then brought another receipt and thwy took my meal off . I was taken back as to why i was paying for either plate and they even got the food back .. could have enjoyed coming here more but sadly wont be returning .. just in case it ever happens again you should comp both meals as no one ate anything .. thats all Our appetizer the egg rolls well the filling was warm tasted okay the breading was chewy and still cool / frozen Red beans and rice - rice and beans weren't cook and hard sausage was good tho.. Crab cake is nothing but green onion and breading .. Our service was good tho Mussels sauce was like a thick cheese.. look like grits to be honest

My server was exceptional!! Didn't catch her name, she was an older(b) lady, with decades of server/restaurant experience, she makes the sweet tea which is perfectly created not to sweet. Food- gator bites: rubbery maybe slightly under cooked , no flavor, and doesn't pair well with jar aoili. I recommend making a sauce from scratch, something like a sweet/spicy pineapple dip, a Cajun aoili not so thick and if affordable use fresh gator or frozen Fried green tomato: season the batter, the Herb dill sauce is wayyy to powerful for those dish Southwest eggrolls- store bought, way cheaper to make homemade egg rolls so you can add personality to the creation, these frozen egg rolls are cream/blackbean overload 😭 Shrimp/crawfish Cajun pasta: Absolutely no!! Identical to Applebee's, chili's, 1 star 3 cheese Mac with stuff on top, the bread not Toasted, I recommend at minimum toast the Baguette, rub with fresh garlic, dash with cajun season, avocado oil or butter or even more basic just add some minced garlic, parsley, lemon juice to butter and spread over it...anything is better than biting into a huge cold slice of extra thick tough Baguette. Atmosphere 4 out of 5 Food 2 out of 5 Creativity/originality 0 out of 5 Staff 5 out of 5 Cleanliness 5 out of 5
