We came down to Madison for a family reunion, and one of my only regrets is I don't have the time to try other things on the menu like the ramen or hibachi.
We tried a small variety of sushi rolls, and they were extremely delicious and fresh tasting. The staff had no issue accommodating our requests with the sushi, and the host/receptionist was wonderful. While waiting for our sushi, I had a great conversation with him and some of the other staff, who were among the most friendly and amiable of any place I've ever been to.
My one and only complaint I could find at all was that, for the price, usually you get a few more pieces of sushi per roll when buying premium sushi. At least, in my experience, so I expected them to be a bit bigger. However, the sushi was great and I didn't feel like I got ripped off for the price.
If you're in Madison, I can absolutely recommend Nikimura to scratch an Asian cuisine itch. I will definitely come back to it when I'm in town...
Read moreI was excited for this new Japanese restaurant but it fell way below expectations. They put a disclaimer that they are busy with everyone excited to try it out but this was dismal. Ordered the chicken karage $16 with $2 fried rice upgrade. It took one hour on a weekday evening from entering to getting my food. They told me food was almost ready, 20 mins before I actually got it. You can look at the pictures and that is not chicken karage. Compare what karage is supposed to look like on Google photos. Barely additional ingredients inn the fried rice to merit the $2 upgrade. Meal was a downgraded Panda Express. Not to mention lack of service, inadequate cleaned stained utensils. Prices are 20-50% higher than the other restaurants in town, who cook great food and faster. Questionable hygiene/cleaning as well. Maybe I had an one off experience but the pictures speak for themselves. Hopefully the restaurant can improve but I cannot recommend...
Read moreAfter doing shopping in the area, we decided to try the new restaurant on the block. We ordered 2 rolls of sushi, a habachi dinner (surf n turf, filet mignon/chicken) piece and an appetizer of crab rangoons to start the meal. The crab rangoons were freshly fried and delicious, the sushi was good, and the habachi was pretty standard stuff. Not bad, just your typical grilltop style teriyaki. Seasoning is your friend! The service was given in a respectable manner, everything was brought out in stages. The presentation was good overall. We were in and out in less than an hour. The price was a bit expensive for what you get. We'll probably give it another try once this new restaurant finds it rhythm and works out a few more...
