I looooove any and every kind of dumpling, so when I saw this place had a drive through, I knew I had to have some as a snack.
This restaurant is located in a small shopping mall in Madison. They have a fairly large menu of typical Americanized Chinese favorites as well as Bento boxes, soups, appetizers, etc. The drive through makes them somewhat unique -- big fan of that. I was asked to pull into a parking spot and wait rather than it being handed to me through the window, so I initially was worried I'd be waiting for a while, but my food came out quickly and it was obvious it was made fresh, considering it was so hot I couldn't even touch it at first, haha.
I went basic and just ordered an appetizer of fried dumplings, as it was too late in the afternoon for any real kind of lunch. They did a great job frying them -- they were super crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. I'm not sure exactly what the filling consisted of -- it was mostly vegetables, and I think a little bit of chicken, but I was munching as I drove and didn't take note of too much specifically one way or another. Sadly, the flavors were all sort of nondescript and nothing really stood out.
The dish came with small plastic cups of a soy based dipping sauce, which was also fairly generic, with mild sweet and salty flavors. I'd be careful before driving off, as they were in the styrofoam box with the dumplings, and it would be devastating to have it spill and get all soggy before you got home.
I didn't dislike these dumplings (I've never met a bad one), but I probably wouldn't order them again. This restaurant is not near my frequent haunts at all, but I'd consider trying a different dish as they have so many...
Read moreI often order lunch and have never been disappointed until today. I usually order the Hibachi white meat chicken. It always comes with vegetables and today I open the box and there are no vegetables. I call the restaurant and the lady on the phone argues with me and says I have to request vegetables. I explained to her that the menu clearly states it comes with rice and vegetables. She kept telling me I have to ask for vegetables and that I only wrote “light on the rice.” I told her I have never had to ask for vegetables bc it has always come with vegetables and that the menu says that it comes with both rice and vegetables. I even told her I can’t come back bc I’m on my lunch break. She said I could come back and get them. Needless to say I was angry and definitely yelled because this is poor customer service. She kept talking over me, and that definitely escalated the issue. I will not be going back. The food might be decent, but I’m not giving my money to a business that won’t admit their fault and try to...
Read moreWe tried Red Fish for the first time tonight! As with the first run at any new Asian cuisine place for us we ordered way more than we needed so we could try a little of everything. Steak teriyaki, sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli, hot and sour soup, and egg rolls. The hot and sour soup was good- not too oily. The egg rolls were run of the mill- good but nothing special. Steak teriyaki with noodles was also good but wouldn't get it again- would probably try the chicken in the future. We got fried rice with one of the entrees and it was essentially just white rice tossed in some soy sauce, a little bit of a let down. The sweet and sour chicken was decent, the breading was quite crispy and a little dry, but was the favorite entree. The beef and broccoli was almost soggy, definitely the worst of the entrees and I could barely eat any of it. Hoping we got it on an off day or something as the reviews also seemed high compared to other...
