Five-Star Google Review: Spice & Fire Grill – Morton Grove, IL
Last night, I had the pleasure of dining at Spice & Fire Grill in Morton Grove with a group of 13—myself and 12 others, including eight kids—and it was an unforgettable experience that deserves a glowing five-star review.
A Culinary Journey Back in Time As someone who studied in Iraq years ago, the authentic Middle Eastern and Iraqi flavors at Spice & Fire Grill transported me back to cherished memories from when I was around 22 years old. The dishes were not only delicious but also deeply nostalgic.
Exceptional Value and Generous Portions The menu offers a wide variety of flavorful options at very reasonable prices. We were amazed by the portion sizes—perfect for large groups. Compared to what we get in Ohio, this place gives you nearly double the food for half the price!
Standout Dishes • Seven-Person Family Platter – This massive feast came loaded with seasoned rice, chicken shawarma, beef shawarma, kebabs, and a wide variety of other grilled meats, all beautifully presented. Every bite was juicy and flavorful. It’s the perfect order for sharing and celebrating with a group. • Chicken & Beef Shawarma (Sandwich or Plate) – Whether you order it as a sandwich wrap or plated with sides, the shawarma was perfectly marinated and tender, packed with bold spices and grilled to perfection. The beef was rich and savory, while the chicken was juicy with a slightly smoky char. • Chicken Burger – Absolutely massive! Easily twice the size of a regular burger elsewhere, and bursting with flavor. • Kebab and Biryani Rice – The kebabs were perfectly grilled, tender, and juicy, and the biryani rice was aromatic, fluffy, and packed with flavor. • Special Falafel – Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and seasoned just right. A must-try even for meat lovers. • French Fries – Even the fries stood out—golden, crisp, and well-seasoned, served hot and fresh.
Atmosphere & Hospitality The ambiance is warm and inviting with a lively, welcoming energy. Perfect for groups, families, or just a casual night out. The staff showed incredible patience and kindness—especially with our eight kids! They were attentive, understanding, and made sure the kids were comfortable and taken care of, even when it took some time for all of them to finish ordering.
Highly Recommended If you’re craving real Middle Eastern or Iraqi food, this place is a must. Whether you’re from the region or just curious, Spice & Fire Grill delivers quality, flavor, and hospitality in every bite. I’m not Iraqi myself, but studying there left a deep appreciation for this cuisine—and this meal brought back all the...
Read moreLet me start off by saying I’m not sure where all of these positive reviews are coming from. Being a new restaurant I expected them to at least put in some effort to TRY and do a good job. Sadly, I left disappointed with my meal and overall experience.
I ordered a mixed grill which comes with white beans and soup on the side. My order came with neither even though the menu stated it would. The previous party left a mess on the tables and staff were extremely slow to clean up. Mind you, this meant we ordered at the register and then went and sat down. There was only one other occupied table there so they weren’t even busy. Bad start.
My “mixed grill” consisted on two VERY small pieces of ground beef and one EXTREMELY small piece of ground chicken. Everybody knows that mixed grill at a Middle Eastern restaurant means ground beef (kofta), kabob (whole pieces) and whole chicken tikka/tawook breast pieces. This was...odd. My plate had two slices of tomatoesi and two rings of raw onions. NOTHING like the grilled onions and tomatoes shown on the menu.
The ground chicken had a strange lemon flavor. There was nothing authentic about the meal. I am trying to not make this review long and not go into detail how bad the food was.
It was clear that they were trying to cut costs with the meal because portions were very small and not a reflection of the price. It was almost insulting. I quickly ate my food and left.
Unfortunately, this place is another black X on the list of failures trying to be a Middle Eastern restaurant in the city.
Chicago will continue to be on the search for authentic, plentiful, fresh and delicious Middle Eastern food, because this...
Read moreI ordered the chicken shawarma platter 2 nights ago, I subed the salad and sides for extra rice, to which I was happily compensated. The taste was amazing and the rice definitely had a "home-made" feel😋 and the to-go box was full of rice and chicken. Great price/great serving size, definitely worth a return. Tonight, I ordered the chicken shawarma platter again and added the veggie platter. I asked if I could sub the salad/sides and was told it was not possible, I explained the we had done it just the other night and the man sounded upset and told me that "should have never been done" (very rudely). He informed me of what came in the veggie platter and that a pita is included. We picked up the order & to my surprise the chicken and rice were only in a half side of the container (small portion of rice) , with sauces "included"as a side. The veggie platter was the same, but there was a decent serving of hummus. No pita was included and my soup was also missing. I called to inform them of the difference because the price was still the same, 18 and some change a peice for the platters. The (rude) man informed me the veggie platter doesn't come with pita and the serving sizes are "how they've always been" stumbling on his words. I'm sad that I felt like we found a new favorite local place but to then be disappointed by a skimped order and missing items with no intention of...
