Don't judge a book by it's cover my mother always told me, and let me tell you, Salsa's definitely falls into this category. It may appear as a small little Ma and Pop restaurant, and the outside may not look visually appealing, but WOW, whatever comes out of this place is heaven sent. I walked in there not expecting much, and ordered a burrito and some taquitos. The price was fair, but the burrito they served me was absolutely delicious and fulling. Not too greasy and bursting with flavor. (Try it with the salsa they have, it's not spicy at all, just flavorful!) The taquitos were top-notch and the quality of the food was excellent. The aroma alone brought me back to eating my grandmother's food down in Mexico. The cashier even went out of his way and asked me if I liked the food that was made. I feel like I am ranting now, but seriously, if you love Mexican food and plan on Skiing, Snowboarding, Biking, Camping or Hiking...do yourself the favor and drop by. I got a gut feeling you will not be disappointed. :)

Read moreThe alpine mountain country of Mammoth Lakes and Mexican cuisine isn't something that easily rolls off your tongue, and in fact, it's almost an awkward mismatch. But, who cares?
On an overnight stop at Mammoth Lakes, I found this gem of a place in town. I wasn't that hungry, but I just needed to top off my tank and I ordered the fish taco here. Man, that hit the spot, it was delicious. My only criticism of this place is that the fish content was stingy.
Given that, I ordered another taco, this time carnitas and that was also delicious. Again, their portions are small, but maybe because I am out of San Francisco where Mexican joints are plentiful, perhaps my expectations are different?
Bottom line is, the food was excellent even if it lacks...
Read moreThe staff here was friendly, but that is about the only good thing about Salsa's. Maybe I've been spoiled with Mexican food given where I live (Mission District, SF) but the food here just isn't good. It came super fast, which was a big red flag to me. Everything on my enchilada plate was room temperature, if that. It was hard to eat especially since the cheese in the enchilada wasn't even close to the melty goodness I expect. The flavor was okay, but it didn't make up for the overall presentation of the meal. The seating area was clean but the area behind the counter where they were "making" the food was pretty filthy looking. Don't be fooled by the business of this restaurant, it doesn't...
