Downtown Books — Local services in Manteo

Absolutely my favorite bookstore in all the World! It is a MUST do on my trips to the Outer Banks and I’ve been privileged to shop there twice this Summer 2020. It’s a quirky and perfect local bookstore full of books I need and many things I discover I need. Local artists and authors are always recommended which makes it change every time I visit. I love it! They are doing a great job of providing hand sanitizer and reminding people to leave space when necessary. My first trip was for Wes Snyder’s photography book and they had signed copies for patrons who would not be able to visit when Wes would be there (safely) signing a week later. My second trip I was on the hunt for a book by another local author, but they were sold out when I got there. I would normally have a problem giving a review of a bookstore i have never stepped foot into, but Jaime had gone above and beyond to get me my moms Christmas present. I had missed to cutoff to be at Vivian Howards book signing, but she had no issue getting Vivian to sign, and even personalize the book for my mother. The 2hr drive from Hampton Roads, + typical traffic and delays, got us to the area after they closed. Instead of making me wait untill the next day to get the book, she responded on FB messages after hours, found out where we at in Nags Head, and brought the book to us. I may have only seen the outside of Downtown Books, but the amazing customer service will get me in next time...

As a lifelong avid reader and people person, Jamie is very passionate about her business. I think I can speak for many locals here on the OBX when I say she saved us in an unprecedented time. When stores were forced to close here, Jamie kicked into gear with creative ways to service her customers while keeping her business afloat. Not only will she special order, but she also personally delivers! In April when a special out of town friend had a birthday Jamie made suggestions, gift wrapped, and mailed the package.
