BoBaPoP Tea Bar- Germantown — Restaurant in Maryland

I’ve came to this spot quite a few, always telling ppl to try it because it’s pretty good! BUT weird experience the other day.. me and my bf went and I ordered 2 drinks 1 frozen 1 regular with boba pop balls.. we were given our order and left. Half way down the street I stick my straw in and immediately taste the jelly and spit it out (I don’t like the jelly don’t judge me) I didn’t notice prior to because I simply didn’t lol I wasn’t going to go back because traffic there is kinda bad but my bf insisted we did as it was his first time trying it (his drink was still unopened) because when I noticed mine I checked his so we took it back unopened. We told the lady at the register and she said ok I’ll remake it. No apology not even apologetic.. whatever right LOL then she hands us 2 drinks that she SEPERATED THE JELLY FROM and stuck it in another cup and sealed as new.. reminding you mine was a frozen drink so 10 mins later it’s pretty much defrosted and not good… that’s what she stuck in a cup and said I TRIED TO REMOVE ALL THE JELLY.. confused I took my drink and left. So after all that paying almost $10 for the big size… $17 total for 2 drinks… she added the balls to a new cup… removed the old drinks and separated the jelly’s and added the remainder to my new cup? This was so petty, cheap and weird.. they were not busy at all we were 1 of 2 customers there the whole time. Tbh .. I’ll never go back. That’s a pretty crappy way to go about someone’s order THAT THEY MADE THE MISTAKE ON. It was a frozen drink .. literally half ice.. I don’t see it to far fetched to simply redo the drink seeing as I paid $10 for it and the mistake was...

I first discovered BobaPop in the Kentlands shopping center in Gaithersburg, tucked in the corner by PetSmart and Whole Foods. I fell in love! I have tried bubble tea from countless brands and there are only a few I like (and no, Kung Fu Tea isn't one of them).

I was thrilled to find out that a Germantown location was opening closer to me and after two visits, I have to say, this location doesn't uphold the same standards or quality control.

Gaithersburg location has never messed up an order and their tapioca, whether it be the brown sugar or standard pearls, have been cooked well.

The Germantown location, however, despite the correct order being placed did not include the correct toppings, they were out of a flavor I wanted (also something I haven't experienced at the Gaithersburg location - but giving Germantown the benefit of the doubt because...it happens), their tea was steeped too long (extremely bitter) and their tapioca was tough.

I would say if you're travelling in the direction of Gaithersburg down Great Seneca Highway or can spare a 10 minute drive, I highly recommend the Gaithersburg location. If Germantown is your first entry to the brand, you might find yourself disappointed, but the Gaithersburg location has nailed quality control and has always maintained an extremely high level of accuracy and excellence.

I still maintain that BobaPop, when done well, is better than the majority of brands you'll find in the area, but this Germantown location is missing the mark and could be damaging to the brand if not corrected sooner than later - it's still new enough that...

I have a BoBaPop gift card, gift card was purchased in Kentland location. I have been using my gift card to make 9 purchases at Germantown location in person fine without any problem, as expected because you guys are the same franchise and use the same system called Toast. Suddenly one day, the store employee (according to their manager) told me i cannot use the card at their store and at Kentland only. Okay, i will just add my gift card to the Bobapop DMV app and order via the app at Germantown location then LOL!!!!!!!! Actually, i will still make in person purchase at Germantown location by scanning the gift card with QR code in the app, because the gift card in the app does not show where i got the gift card from 👍 Like wake up, you guys are just a franchise, i can use my gift card wherever i want 😂 1 star is too harsh, drink is good here so...
