Updating my review. After 2 years of major celebrations, birthday parties and big get-togethers where we spend hundreds of dollars collectively.... Three bad takeout experiences. Now knock this place down to Unreliable for Cost.
DO NOT LET THEM TIE YOUR BAG BEFORE YOU CHECK, every tiny detail. Assume nothing is 100.
This pains me as this became our only alternative to not get messed up Chinese food from most of the places in our area.
Online order kung pao chicken. No peanuts. An incredibly ridiculous amount of chopped up chili pepper, the kind that you pull out and don't eat. Like an insane amount.
Massive massive amounts of garlic so much that we thought at first that the peanuts looked weird.
No red peppers if they're supposed to be regular red peppers. All we had was the chopped dried chili peppers, the kind you pick out regardless of spice preferences.
(Edit: I realized we paid Extra for "not enough" white rice for two people.)
Two of us had one serving of half the rice and we were left with half of our leftovers with no peanuts, and insane like someone's first day level insane amount of garlic,
And what I originally called in was that I had no chili oil for our sides.
I received a lengthy explanation how they don't come with a chili oil by default.
The manager then called me back and explained how again those thousand layer beef pancakes don't have any sort of sauce that come with them when you order them to go. Of course we would have no clue they didn't come with a sauce considering they've been served with a sauce consistently for the last couple of years.
Our conversation on the phone was entirely centered around the lack of the chili oil and sauce for a barbecue bun, a thousand layer beef pancake.
So we never even addressed the peanuts and the garlic in the kung pao chicken.
I'm actually riding this several days later as I can't bring myself to eat the leftovers.
Perhaps our order was incredibly expensive because of the automatic tip and the manager has assured me that they've removed the automatic non-optional tipping that happens when you order a freaking pickup order.
There was a vague promise that if we mention his name when we come into eat they would do something to make it right but.... I'm trying to look at these $50 leftovers. We never finished the pancake because what was the point... It was chewy and old by the time we got home so dipping it in the sauce. Just don't order the pancake to go. Don't do it.
And I guess open your order up and don't let them tie off that bag.
The manager was pleasant enough when I got a call back the next day. But I just don't like to fight on the phone. My level of tantrum should not equal my level of customer service.
I'm not entirely ready to write this place off. But trust... Damn how expensive will it be for me to rebuild trust and experiment with ordering from this...
Read moreI felt like the food was mid, nothing memorable. We came on a Saturday night and it was extremely busy. Regardless of how many people were on the waitlist or waiting in the waiting area the ladies at the front desk told everyone 30-40 mins. When I signed up for the waitlist I noticed there were people waiting for over 1 and a half hour!
We waited over an hour because we specifically drove 30+ mins from our house to try this place and did not want to drive back. When it finally was our turn we were sat down and luckily because we knew what we wanted already we immediately put our order in for 2 kitchen dishes + their soft opening lobster promo. We waited probably over 30mins and we were starving! We noticed dimsums were coming out faster so we put in a order of pan fried pork buns. We waited probably another 20 mins for those. At this point we finished out pork buns and STILL have not received our kitchen food. When we finally received our first dish the lobsters... we noticed that everyone else had noodles in their dish while ours did not. We did not complain or say anything because we were happy just for any food to be on our table at this point. Mind you, at this time there were probably only about 3-4 tables. All other tables are done and paid or waiting to get their checks. The tables to the right and left of me were complaining about the wait times for the food too and lack of service.
I can tell the team is trying their best though as the servers were nice and apologetic. Towards the end of our meal we were informed the kitchen has stopped for the night even though a few tables were still waiting on their food. They seem understaffed in the kitchen and have some kinks to work out.
Overall, I think there is potential if you're looking for some Asian food. Nothing will blow you out of the park, but it is not bad by all means. The presentation and atmosphere of the place was great. Additionally, something to note is none of their dishes come with rice which is unusual as most Asian restaurants automatically give you rice with kitchen dishes. The rice is an additional $2. Dimsum on average is around $8 and normal dishes around $20. The dimsums and kitchen food are your standard sizes. Expect a large bill if...
Read moreI was really excited for this restaurant as it was supposed to open months ago, and I loved going to Sizzle, and I love supporting fellow Asians. Although this restaurant is going through a soft opening currently, I was beyond disappointed in the service and communication. One thing to note is all the 5 star reviews you're seeing are in exchange for a cup. I don't believe all of these to be true as I had to two parties in front of me yell and complain about service. As cool as the cup is, it's not worth giving a dishonest review.
I came in around 1pm on Wednesday and was told the wait would be 30-40 minutes. People who came after me got seated before me. People who complained loudly got seated before me. After 40 minutes went by I asked how long and they told me 10 minutes. I asked again and they told me 5 minutes after another 15 minutes went by. In total, I waited 1 hour and 20 (double the amount originally said) to sit. After all that when it was my time to sit, they told me they had no spots for me and put me in a corner on a barstool that barely has a back and no place for my feet right next to the kitchen while there were other empty tables around me. It was a very uncomfortable dining experience from that perspective.
On the other hand my waitress was super nice and kind. The ambiance was great. The restaurant is very large but they don't have enough staff to fill up even half of the space yet. Overall, a very unique place and a great vibe. The food was okay. I got shrimp soup dumplings which were good, crab rangoons which were standard, skewers which were juicy and well seasoned, and the lobster special which lacked a ton of flavor. I specifically went for the lobster special and I just felt like I couldn't taste much at all. I split these dishes with my friend. Absolutely not worth the regular price of $35.
In the end, I don't plan to come back here for a while. I think the poor service and communication in the beginning rubbed me the wrong way, especially knowing that in order to get the free "merch" for their soft opening, you must leave a 5 star review. I'll miss Sizzle and hope this place one day is as...
