Maui has almost no Chinese restaurants. The handful of ones we do have are not authentic. China Bowl comes pretty close!
ATMOSPHERE: They're located in the Fairway Shops, right in the middle of that single-level, classier-looking strip mall on highway 30 in Ka'anapali just north of the bridge. It's a simple, clean, and inviting spot with indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is free and plentiful.
MENU: Apps, soups, salads, poultry, meat, seafood, veggies, noodles, rice. No dim sum or custard tart though. Inaugural online menu pics posted. You're welcome.
FOOD: Hot & Soup Soup The flavor was spot on, a little sour, a little peppery, slightly thick and piping hot. Delish!
Cake Noodle This wasn't listed on the menu, but they were more than happy to make it. The noodles were perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft inside, and was covered in a tasty seafood gravy that consisted of scallops, shrimp, and veggies. If seafood isn't your thing, you can customize it.
Pot Stickers (8 pcs.) Pork-stuffed, steamed, and flat top-fried perfectly, with a shoyu-based sauce for dipping.
Kau Yuk While I'm not a fan of pork belly in general, the meat on this thing was super tender, and yes I did not eat the fat. Its finished in a dark red sauce that looks insanely hot but was far from it, instead tasted creamy-savory. I would've poured that extra gravy on rice but I was stuffed. Absolutely delish!
Egg Foo Young They did a twist on the traditional version by topping the eggs with fillers rather than omelette-style, and made it "wet" with the shrimp and veggie sauce from the cake noodles.
Beef Broccoli The meat was very tender, with crunchy broccoli, garlic, and carrots in a dark brown savory gravy. Very good version.
Chicken & Corn Soup The spoonful I had reminded me of an egg flower soup. Very lightly salted with lots of scrambled eggs and semi-thick consistency.
House Fried Rice This was very tasty. It came loaded with bits of pork, chicken and shrimp. The rice was cooked and fried perfectly with savory flavors. Highly recommended!
Pan Fried Noodle I'm beginning to understand that "pan fried noodles" in most Chinese restaurants mean the deep-fried, crispy noodles, not noodles stir fried in a pan, and was exactly what I wanted. The poured-over sauce was savory, with tender pieces of chicken, broccoli, cabbage, carrots and broccoli. Another highly recommended dish and a good sized portion.
Asparagus Shrimp & Scallops This is a stir-fried dish with hardly any gravy, but loads of flavor. The asparagus and shrimp were tender but still had a light crunch. The amount of scallops were fair.
SERVICE: The family of owners were running the place, taking on hosting, serving, and busing. Who knows, maybe even cooking too! The husband, wife & son were all welcoming, friendly, and professional. Very unlike traditional Chinese establishments. Food came out quick and hot.
OVERALL: Extensive menu, tasty food, good pricing & portions, terrific service. Yes, I will drive 25 miles to...
Read moreWe ordered $87.14 in food to go on March 19th around 6:45pm. Once we got back to condo and began eating, my daughter found a water beetle cooked into the Mongolian beef. As you can imagine, we threw that in the trash and I called the restaurant about it. The woman I talked to sort of had the tone as if this occurs now and then. Their resolution was to credit us back for just the Mongolian Beef, but clearly we were not about to eat any of the other meals either. It all came out of the same kitchen, and probably the same grill top. I understand that you run your business in a tropical area, but you also have your front doors wide open all day inviting critters of all sorts to fly into your food. You need to do more. I will never be back. It should have been a...
Read moreThis place is awesome. Everything I have tried so far, shattered my expectations. I work from home and order plenty of delivery when I'm really busy. Going with this option is always good. I have tried the General Chicken, Spicy Chicken, Orange Beef, chicken corn soup, hot and sour soup, Chinese Chicken Salad and white rice. I am not against any other Asian food delivery service in the area, haven't had any quality issues with that, but the difference in China Bowl food, was how fresh the ingredients were. Every ingredient was exploding with flavor and you can enjoy multiple tastes because all the flavors are so rich. I had to stop eating just to tell somebody. Gotta go finish that spicy chicken, which is outrageously...
