Alright, buckle up buttercups, because I'm about to drop a review so hot, it'll make Beale Street blush!
Listen up, universe, you absolute legend! We rolled into Memphis completely off-the-cuff, no plans, just letting the good times roll. And where did we land? Freakin' B.B. King's Blues Club. As if that wasn't enough serendipity, the cosmos decided to gift us the holy grail of seating: a balcony perch directly overlooking the stage. I'm talking about panoramic views, baby!
We settled in just as the opening act took the stage, and let me tell you, this wasn't some lukewarm appetizer. This was straight-up, gut-wrenching blues that dug its claws into your soul and wouldn't let go. The kind of music that makes you nod your head in solemn agreement with every mournful note. It was the perfect mood-setter, a deep dive into the heart of the blues.
Then, BAM! The lights dimmed, a hush fell over the crowd, and then the magic happened. The B.B. King All-Stars took the stage, and let me tell you, folks, this was a revelation! We had absolutely no clue they were even playing, making this surprise even sweeter than a Mississippi mud pie.
This wasn't just a band; it was an orchestra of cool. Saxophones wailing with a soulful cry, trumpets blasting with brassy brilliance, a keyboard player whose fingers danced across the keys like they had a life of their own, guitars that sang and screamed in perfect harmony, and a drummer holding down the groove with the power of a Mississippi flood.
And the singer? Oh. My. Goodness. This wasn't just a performer; this was a force of nature. This cat had the stage presence of a supernova and vocal cords that could make angels weep. Comparisons to Prince? Honestly, it felt like Prince himself had been reincarnated and decided to bless Beale Street with his otherworldly talent. The way he commanded that stage, the way he locked eyes with the audience, the sheer charisma radiating off him – it was absolutely mind-blowing.
It took approximately zero seconds for that crowd to go from politely seated to a full-blown, foot-stomping, hip-shaking frenzy. The energy in that room was electric, contagious, pure joy. Everyone was on their feet, lost in the music, united by the power of the blues and this incredible band.
And let's not forget the drinks! They were flowing freely, adding fuel to the already roaring fire of the music. Every sip was a toast to the moment, to the music, to the sheer unexpected perfection of the night.
B.B. King's that night wasn't just a venue; it was a transcendent experience. It was a reminder of the power of live music, the magic of a surprise, and the undeniable soul of the blues. If you ever find yourself on Beale Street, do yourself a favor and step inside. You might just stumble into a night that redefines what a "good time" truly means. We certainly did, and we're still buzzing from it. Five out of five stars doesn't even begin to cover it. This was...
Read moreMy server was friendly and did a great job. The mixed drinks (especially the Strong Island Iced Tea) sucked. Could be the bar tender that night sucks, only been once so far. We started with the Loaded Pork Tots which were actually pretty darn good. Definitely recommend, but have at least 3 people helping out if you also plan on eating a meal. Entree: I got 8 Ribs, baked beans, coleslaw, and it comes with a dinner roll. -The ribs were delicious, fall off the bone, and lots of meat! A good dry rub on them and just enough sauce to note over-do it. -The baked beans were also very good, just traditional. -The coleslaw wasn't half bad. I enjoyed it. -Dinner roll was a dinner roll. Not much to say.
My wife got Mac and Cheese and something else. Can't remember. -the Mac and cheese wasn't great. Bland and very salty she said.
NOW! The entertainment, phew! Phenomenal! You pay $10/person for entertainment (someone mentioned getting there before 8 but it doesn't matter I was there at 5pm. If they have someone about to play they charge) and if you got time to stay a while, its worth every cent! -The first group were a nice old-timey Blues group who sang some classics and a beautiful rendition to Simple Man as well. -The second group "Diversities" (wouldn't let me upload any of my videos) is the name. They were beyond amazing! Great entertainment, they were allowing you to request any song you wanted and requested a small tip along with the request. They had people out of their seats dancing, they were interacting with the entire crowd, it was wonderful.
What was best was that the staff or at least my server did NOT rush me out at all! We ate our food and then stayed for ours just sipping beer and enjoying.
Definitely go check it out. I recommend the top floor...

Service was spotty (we waited at least 10 min to be greeted by a server. She was apologetic, but I noticed 2 other servers staring at us, walking by us, and then finally notifying a girl that was just standing around in the back that we were her table. They could have at least gotten our drink order instead of making us wait while they figured out who was responsible for us). I was impressed at the servers' ability to understand us with the crazy loud music playing. We had been seated for 30 min before finally getting our drinks. Water in the meantime would have been a welcome treat.
The ribs were super good. Literally fell off the bone. The specialty margarita was definitely not worth the $9. Crazy sweet and not well balanced. I ordered a bloody mary and it was tasty (I had 2). I really wanted the Shrimp and grits to be better. The shrimp and gravy were good, but the sausage had weird hard lumps we had to spit out and the grits were lumpy (old?). I probably wouldn't order those again. The fresh steamed veggies were a generous portion and perfectly cooked and seasoned.
As for the music, the cover band that was playing when we walked in was really good. Very talented and entertaining. The only down-side was the lead singer was shamelessly asking for tips. Almost to the point of it becoming uncomfortable. Practically insistent. It went from fine, to funny, to downright awkward. We could have heard at least 2 more songs in the time he spent soliciting tips for his band....
