Great venue, but the service was subpar. I attended the Blue Note whisky event Friday night and was really looking forward to going to this bar. I live 3 blocks up Front St, but haven’t been since Hu! took over. I liked what they had done until I had to deal with the bartenders.
It wasn’t crowded upstairs yet, so only my girlfriend, my best friend, and myself we’re at the bar. My girlfriend got up to the bar and didn’t know what she wanted, so she turned and asked what she should get. At this point, the bartender rolled her eyes so hard; they could’ve come out of her head. We got our drinks and went on to enjoy the mild weather and view from the rooftop. When it came time to get my second drink, it was a little more crowded. I ordered one of the Blue Note specials of the night - a whiskey mule. I watched her pour the drink, but when she started to shave an orange, I asked if she was making an old fashioned. She said, “yes”, but I informed her the special I had asked for was the mule. This time, she was visibly disgusted that I would call her out on the fact that she had mixed up two of the three specials that night. The beside me informed her that he was planning to order the old fashioned, and she was still rude to him.
I went on to enjoy the rest of my night, and I probably will visit again for the venue. However, I can guarantee it won’t be for the service. If I want good service, I can go a block over to Bardog or any of the other bars down Main St. At least there, I know that the staff will tolerate my existence when i order drinks that cost...
Read moreThe Hu Hotel Rooftop. Talking about Fabulously Fantastic. This romantic roof top party for the Yelpers was off the chain! Tiffany was spot on with this one! Yeah 4 Yelp A lovely up and coming hotel in the booming downtown Memphis area. A night to Sit and Sip. We was welcomed by our gracious hostess once exiting the elevator. At the open entrance, Hors devours were ready to adorn our plates. Let the Yelp begin! All our friends and fellow yelpers have gathered for conversations in every nook and cranny. Seating is plentiful with bar height tables and chairs. The entire back wall that’s the length of the roof top is all windows that do open. The walkway leads straight to the bar. There is U shaped bar seating and stools. Our bartender for the night made house prepared margaritas. Very fresh and hand made. Yum. A couple steps then you are amazed with the view from the outside patio. Comfy seating and conversation corners. Also the bright lights from the bridge is in plain view and at 8pm. The bridge light show was performing a dance. Wow! The timing was perfect. I could see this place being secret get away or a romantic anniversary, a proposal spot , scenic conversations, special announcements, also a drink and quick bite will hit the spot any time of day here. Relax and quietly be hidden away from the world. I’m sure the sunsets are absolutely amazing from the Hu Hotel Rooftop. This hidden jewel is one worth shouting from...
Read moreI struggled with what star to give. The views are amazing and when they first opened I would have given a 4 or 5 star review. We visit Memphis regularly, and last month (July 2022) we went to the Hu Rooftop twice, the second time with a new visitor to Memphis. During our first visit last month we asked for a drink menu when we arrived and were told curtly by the bartender that there wasn't one (this despite a handwritten note on the wall saying to ask for their new menu-and the fact that every time we had been there before they had a drink menu). The space was a little disorganized and not very clean, and the drinks we had were just okay. (Yes, a little expensive, but it's a rooftop bar in the city. On previous visits we were okay with that because the views were great, the drinks delicious and the space nice). When we brought a first time visitor there a few days later, we did get a drink menu (!) but it still was sort of dirty/disorganized looking and the drinks were not that good. At all. We were very, very disappointed as we generally would visit at least once during a trip to Memphis and we would tell people to go up for the view. I'm not at all sure...
