I parked in downtown Memphis and in amazement stumbled upon the Lorraine Motel where MLK met his final moment. I felt a tidal wave of ambiguous emotions which led me to curiously stray the streets to digest it all. Within a minute I arrived at Humble & Dough and to prefaceā¦so should you!
The large doors open up to unveil a building that proudly displays its vintage bones like visiting a geriatric nudist beach. The large pillarsā¦the dramatic oversized furnitureā¦high ceilings and seductive aroma of coffee let you know that you have truly arrived.
The staff, specifically a fine fellow named Isaac, provided a level of service and knowledge about flavor profiles that anyone with taste would be impressed to sample. Youāll immediately know āthis aināt no Starbucksā.
The menu concisely describes the offerings (both beverage and culinary) and gives you the comfort in knowing that you really canāt make a wrong decision. The pastries spoke to me in mellow dramatic fashion ā¦so I listened and ordered the blueberry lemon scone along with a special Vice & Virtue whiskey infused blend of coffee and the egg salad toast.
As I waited for my order at the elegant marble bar I felt like pure royalty due to the ambiance followed by a strong inkling that THISā¦was gonna be an experience. The order arrived quickly and the first sip of this coffee caused me to murmur a few familiar four letter words. It was unlike any coffee I had tasted. The scone was of perfect consistency and maintained a sublime blend of tart, sweet and savory. The egg salad toast looked like art that I was absolutely intent on destroying. It lacked nothing butā¦perhapsā¦more.
Before leaving ā¦my credit card took on some more damage as I purchased a few to-goās. If you find yourself in downtown Memphis. Treat yourself! You deserve it! I did! And follow along on the early stages of my journey as a tastemaker to review everything!

Ā Ā Ā Read moreEasily my favorite coffee shop in Memphis. Hustle & Dough on South Main is so much more than a coffee shop ā itās like the living room of our downtown community. Iāve spent countless mornings and afternoons here meeting friends, working, or just soaking in the vibe. The coffeeās incredible (get the Bourbon Mocha ā trust me), and the food is next-level. The French toast and avocado toast are both unreal. The space itself is beautiful ā seriously one of the most stylish spots in the city. Itās got this perfect mix of Memphis history and modern design ā old maps and antiques mixed with clean lines and cozy corners. Whether youāre here to catch up with someone or get a few hours of work done, thereās a perfect spot waiting for you. But honestly, what makes this place special is the people. The staff are always kind, welcoming, and they somehow remember you ā you feel like you belong here. And the crowd is always a fun mix ā hotel guests, locals, artists, business folks, even the occasional celebrity. Itās just a really special place that brings people together. Ā Ā Ā Read moreLately, the service and quality of the food has been noticeably different. They used to make all of their breads and pastries in house, and that doesnāt seem to be the case anymore, but I could be wrong. Regardless, the avocado toast has been one of my favorite breakfasts in town for years, but as of late, the portion size has been cut in half, the flavors have been out of balance with globs of jalapeƱos dumped on top, and the bread is lackluster to say the leastā¦. My friend got the tamago egg salad, and it didnāt look like something you would want to eat. The bread was stale, it was drowning in mayo, so much so that the egg could not be held between the slices of bread, and overall a night and day different between how it used to be prepared with fluffy thick bread, and balanced ingredients. The staff is friendly, but I asked for my drinks āto goā three times and they still came out in glassware. The atmosphere is unbeatable, and itās one of the best places to work remotely, but I wish the food quality could match what...
