This past Sunday was our last time dining at The Garden Brunch. First i would like to say the Salmon Cakes are a hit!! That’s what kept us coming back. But the service is always been a bad experience. Except twice when we had a very nice server. I believe she and her son no longer work here. From dirty champagne flutes, to having to remind our servers of our waters or champagne bottle w/ juice we ordered. When we come here, it’s definitely not for the service.
We waited over an hour on Sunday to be seated, waiting is typical. Once we sat down at our table, it took a server over 15 minutes to come to our table. We ordered our drinks and he returned to take our orders. (3 Waters and the champagne bottle and juice haven’t been received) 25 minutes after taking our order, the waiter informs us that they are out of salmon cakes. Basically only thing that was left were “pancakes and eggs”. No steaks, turkey sausages, etc. We noticed that several tables are now vacate as well. People were leaving. in the mist of us settling for pancakes and turkey bacon. We overheard the owner tell the party of two beside us that she will have salmon cakes out just for her. (The party of 2 did come in at least 30 minutes after us. They were waiting outside when we walked in to be seated. ) We continued with our order; we brushed it off because we thought we heard her wrong. But we didn’t, while we were eating our pancakes, the table beside us receives their order of Salmon Cakes. To see this happen, this totally bad business. It is not a good business practice at all We have dined here at least 10 times since May 2023! We couldn’t believe the owner did this! This was not professional at all. The owner never came to our table to check on our service, like she did the other tables around us. At noon, somebody in the kitchen staff should’ve known that majority of the menu would be limited and they would’ve be running out!I understand things happened but when majority of your restaurant leaves out, after waiting over an hour to be seated, this is a problem. Communication is not a strong suit here. Somebody should’ve known, and would’ve been alerting the front of house! To be open 3 days a week. This is definitely a bad look. Somebody dropped the ball.
Please invest in a better hosting options.maybe a texting options to alert ppl when a table is ready and a dishwasher. Our glasses are always dirty and we have to ask for clean ones EVERY time we come.
I can give the salmon cakes a 10 but overall service and...
Read moreWhat a treat! A friend’s sister from Atlanta was in town and I recommended brunch on the condition that she find the spot. A brunch connoisseur, she narrowed it down to two spots and ultimately decided on The Garden and I am eternally grateful! From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us like family and provided excellent customer service the the whole time we were there (something unheard of in most Memphis establishments, Bar Hustle excluded). The ambiance was inviting and the establishment was tastefully decorated with exposed brick and original artwork on the wall. Some created by the head chef who is an artist on multiple fronts. My friend ordered steak (medium) and eggs (over medium) (hesitantly) and I ordered the salmon cakes and grits (something not found on most Memphis brunch menus) and we held our breaths. The Garden exceeded expectations. The steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The salmon cakes were pure deliciousness seasoned New Orleans style with a Ms Jennifer(owner) twist. (If I tell you, I’ll have to kill you). The steak and eggs included potatoes and a side of 2 homemade pancakes and the salmon and grits came with eggs. We shared the plates among the three of us and tacked on a side of French toast. When I say everything was delicious, EVERYTHING was pure deliciousness! I’m somewhat of a pancake snob, and the pancakes were made from scratch and the Bananas Foster pancakes (compliments of the owner) were in a league of their own. I write this review with hesitation because I’d love to keep this gem of a place to myself, but recognize that once Memphis experiences it, it won’t be hidden long! Go and enjoy the warm hospitality and divine creations at The Garden. You won’t be...
Read moreI wish this would let me do a 4.5 star review. My wife and I live downtown and saw this place while on a walk. We decided to take my mother-in-law to brunch to celebrate Mother’s Day and OMG, the food. Is. Delicious!!! They don’t do reservations, and our wait was only 10 mins., but I’m sure it’ll be longer once more people know about this spot. And trust me, it’ll be worth the wait. We will be regulars for sure!
The pro’s: the food, the drinks, the service. We didn’t take any pictures of the food cause our mouths were watering just looking at other people’s food, that when ours came out we went for it. My MiL and I had the fish and grits, wife got the veggie bowl, and the three of us shared a side of the banana pancakes. We wanted to lick the plates clean. Everything was so yummy. My MiL had a cosmopolitan and she loved it, said it was strong. Our waitress was super friendly and nice!
The con’s: I’ll start by saying that think the cons are just part of the place/staff being new and all the things getting settled. First, the inside of the place was quite hot. It took us all several minutes to cool off using the menu’s as fans. The wait to get drinks. The only drink we had was my MiL cosmopolitan, which took over half of the time we were there to come out. We were told it was because there was only one person at the bar, but we waited at the very least 30 mins to get that. And even though we wanted to try more drinks, we didn’t order any more because of this. Lastly, our service was great, but there were times when our server forgot to come back to our table for stuff we’d requested.
Overall, it was a great first time here and we’ll definitely be back! Love this new addition...
