This place used to be good, but today (6/10/2023) I visited for the first time since the pandemic. The place seemed clean enough, but that is where the end of the good stuff. First, the price now for a lunch buffet is absurd at almost $20 per person with tax and tip; they also have you pay first now, which I am not used to, had it sunk in before they can my card, I would have just left. The price may be because they had crab legs out, but at least pre-pandemic, that was on Sundays, and I avoided the place on Sundays for that reason. Since I paid for them, I tried the crab legs, they were terrible, way overcooked, and cold. Most of the seafood bar was cold, the fried calamari in particular seemed like they put it on the buffet straight from the fridge. The only sushi roll that wasn't bland was a tempura roll, and it was cold too. Most of the fried items were excessively greasy and the fried rice was flavorless.
All that said, there were some good things... The teriyaki chicken sticks were actually fairly good, if a little light on seasoning. The cream cheese Rangoon's (no trace of anything in them but cheese) were crisp and they were the one fried item that wasn't cold or too greasy. The Chinese BBQ chicken was good, and the house Mei Fun was very good.
All in all though, this served as my confirmation that buffet's were another victim of COVID-19, the few that are still open are not trying all that hard, or are insane over-priced for what you get. I will not be going to Red Sun again...
Read moreNot too bad. I went on a Wednesday night and it was very quiet in there. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many options on the buffet. I tried the fried chicken wings, pork spare ribs, chicken on a stick, general Tso chicken and fried dumplings. The chicken on a stick was quite dry like it had been out a little bit but still tasty. The spare ribs were quite good and tender with lots of sauce. Very good The fried chicken wings were in edible. Way too much seasoning and tasted off. I can’t put my finger on it. I had to spit that back out and I’ve never not liked a chicken wing before. General Tso chicken was on point and tasted great. The fried dumpling were good but over cooked.
I have been to this location before. It was much better during that visit. But with full disclosure that was over a year ago if not longer.
I would give them a try again in the future and I would recommend trying them on a weekend night. I have a feeling everything is fresher during those times. There’s lots to try with plenty of space to move around.
The bathrooms were a bit dirty and had an odor that was not pleasant to the nose. So...
Read moreYELP rates this a 2.5 star! They are too generous. The best thing about this place is the fish tank when you walk in the front door. There is a time limit on a $22 buffet that can best be described as risky. The service was atrocious. We were were missing a drink in a party of 15 ($300+). Instead of fixing the drink and making things right the maître d' left his post in the front to count drink at our table. After realizing their mistake, he refused to apologize, but instructed the waitress to bring the drink. The kicker, no pun intended, is this drink was for a recent leg amputee who had ask the waitress twice to bring the drink before the maitre d' took it upon himself to personally count drinks at our table. This is a 1st and last visit for us or anyone I can reach. We only gave them a chance because the Chinese buffet near our hometown is a favorite of ours after a celebration so I attempted to find something similar when my family visited here in Bartlett. I don't typically leave reviews, but this is a public service announcement STAY AWAY if you value your money, time, and...
