Just before leaving Mississippi to go back home to Michigan, I decided to treat my self to some great food. First my cousin and I stopped Newk's which is a new eatery in town. I ordered the BBQ chicken pizza which was something new to me--it was actually pretty good. Afterwards while pulling out the parking lot we spotted a Crystal's Hamburger restaurant which I have never tried so we stopped there, they were rather bad tasting but of course what would you expect for a buck.
My cousin turn to me as says I want to take you to Dickies, I hear they have delicious BBQ ribs! A bit full, I conceded to go--didn't want to pass up an opportunity to chow down on some good ribs and possible take some to the airport with me. We pull up to the restaurant; while approaching the entrance they have wood stacked up as part of a display which sets the mood for you. Opened the door and immediately you can spell the hickory smoke that gets your taste buds worked up. I ordered the half rack of ribs which was $13 and mac & cheese and green beans; I go to cash out and the bill was $20. I thought to myself... That's a bit steep but the ribs are really going to be good!
My number is called, I go to get my tray. There were 6 individual ribs on the tray, they had no sauce on them and appeared dry. I search for sauce when I get back to the table and discover they sauce is located on a separate counter a few feet away. I go over to the counter and with anticipation of an assortment of different sauces; met with disappointment when I say a choice of only 2 (spicy and original) that were located in two separate vats. I select the original, as I deep the serving spoon in the vat I notice the sauce appeared to be exceptionally thin. I'm a little discouraged but still hopeful. I pick up a bone and bite into it and immediately I'm disappointed. The taste was awful and it was so obvious that the ribs where not cooked on a grill but steamed. I continue to eat because I didn't want to make my cousin feel bad for highly recommending this place. I eat the second bone and that was about all I could stomach.
I asked by cousin to please try one and after a few minutes of conjoling her , she concedes to try one. She took one bite and exclaimed "Oh my word that is horrible!" She immediately noticed they were not smoked grilled but steamed. I was thoroughly disappointed as I discarded the other half in the trash. We walked out with an ice cream cone and set at the table in front of the store. I then notice the inscription on the window "Slowly smoked for over 40 years."
Buyer beware, this place has all the props to get you in the mood and get your salivary glands secreting, but in the end you will be severely disappointed and out of some serious cash. Don't be fooled by the smell of smoke that meets you at the door and the hickory wood stacked out front. The inscription on the window is misleading my friend, there's no smoking going on there but the wood burning in the back that gives...

Not sure what happened but the experience was awful.
The fries were not cooked completely, chicken sandwich was all bun with literally 3 cubes of meat. I paid $17 for chicken sandwich, slaw and fries. Only the slaw was truly edible.
Nothing like my first visit so this place must be hit or miss! Be warned.
This was my first trip to Dickey's.
Good bbq! Fresh hot french fries! (They are fried when you order them..That by itself is worth 5 stars to me. (What is it with cold fries in Mississippi? And often undercooked in most places🤢..not here!)
I paid $17 for a pulled pork sandwich, fries and slaw with water. The food was delicious!
Atmosphere gets 3-4 stars because the floors were sticky (but appeared relatively clean). I mean really sticky, which made me think of public restrooms. (Tho I'm sure it has something to do with all the grease and the solution they use on the floors.) But, not an ideal mental image for eating. The whole dining area and furniture need a good scrubbing and a little update as well.
Also, they had an animal channel on the TV right above me in my line of sight and the animals were doing gross animal things (think armadillo birthing). Lol Animal channel probably isn't the best choice for viewing.😜
Also, there was no ketchup and when I asked for some they handed me 3 packs. I'd suggest buying it in bulk like the bbq sauce and letting people pump it out in the little bbq containers when dining in. The little packs are just about useless. And lots of folks like it on their bbq. Just a suggestion.
Overall, I'll go back for the food. But probably won't stay for the...
