A lovely lunch with reasonable prices. I went twice in one week! Host not very welcoming though.
Five stars for the food and the outdoor atmosphere and the service! Three stars for the hostess.
This would have been a five star review, but the hostess made me feel a bit unwelcome.
Pros: The menu was excellent. The first day I went I had the egg Sammy, which was wonderfully done. The chili aioli was on point. I ordered gluten-free bread, and they accidentally brought it out on regular bread, and the server was quick to correct the mistake. The portions were huge. With the gluten-free bread, you basically ended up with two sandwiches.
The server recommended the bruschetta the second time we went, and it was honestly the best bruschetta I have ever had. There were two different stylings. The first featured prosciutto and mascarpone while the second was a bit more traditional and featured tomatoes, ricotta and pesto. They were both outstanding. Really works of art! And the bread was soft, which Is a really vital element with this bruschetta, because the toppings were piled high!
My husband had the avocado toast which was good but not excellent. The tomato relish remains the standout on that dish. It would’ve been better if the egg had a little bit more softness to it. Perhaps try one step below soft-boiled.
The bang-bang cauliflower was also very very good. It is a twist on regular bang bang sauce, in that it has a curry element to it.
Cons:
A bit disappointed that the ceviche did not come with chips. That doesn’t make any sense to me. I would even pay extra for chips, but there were no chips to be had.
The aforementioned hostess seemed to really not want to sit me on the porch, even though I had a reservation. It was the last table, and she made noises about “it being hot in the sun and was I sure I wanted to sit there?” I would feel sort of like a nuisance sitting there after she said those things, because it was clear she did not want me to sit there. There were nice tables inside as well, but she sent me way off in a corner near the café area with two people talking loudly on their phones. I know I was just a single person, but gosh, I was really made to feel unwelcome. A couple of days later, when I returned with my husband, we had a different host, and he was happy to let us pick any table. Very warm and welcoming and a very...
Read moreI don’t consider myself picky when it comes to restaurants, but this was without a doubt one of the weirdest and worst ones I’ve been to. My girlfriend and I simply wanted to stop for a quick lunch and this place seemed fine enough. For beginners, our waiter was very odd. We order two coffees to start, and brought us out paper cups full of lukewarm coffee (not to mention they were like half full, and he forgot to put cream in mine). We had also asked for waters and I had to actually go in and ask him 10 minutes later to please bring them out, our mouths were drier than the Sahara desert. His response? “I know.”
At this point I wanted to leave, but my girlfriend had ordered a glass of champagne and convinced me to stay. After downing our at this point cold coffee, we asked for another two because the first ones had been so dissatisfying. These next ones were luckily hot this time, but still barely full. But whatever, free refills right? Wrong. So wrong. This man charged us $4.50 for EACH coffee, because he had punched them in as lattes. You didn’t serve me a latte, you served me lukewarm black coffee in a paper cup. I pointed this out to him and he corrected the check to an extent, but I was still charged $3 each for subpar coffee. But hey, at least he didn’t charge me for the glass of champagne. You’d think it was to compensate us for the lackluster dining experience, but no, this guy just forgot to do it.
Food was fine. I’ve had better....
Read moreZero stars, but that's not an option. We waited nearly 20 minutes just for our drinks and there was only one other table on the front patio where we were seated, it was not busy. My husband ordered a Blue Moon and was given a Sam Adams instead. When we told the waitress that it was the wrong beer, she argued with us incessantly that it was Blue Moon until I finally had to say: whatever it is we don't want it. She just would not accept that it was wrong. I have never had a server argue with me about an incorrect order, then come to find out that they had their tap handles on the wrong kegs and lo and behold, we were correct, which was no surprise to us, but she did not even apologize for her error or for arguing with us. When our lunch finally arrived there were SEVERAL hairs in my husband's sandwich, which were different colors, so it seems like they came from more than one person. I'm not sure if that was some sort of retaliation for the fact that she was wrong about the beer, or maybe more than one cook helps to make one sandwich and they all shed hair? Whatever the case may be, we won't be back and I wouldn't recommend this...
