Smashburger — Restaurant in Miami Township

Smashburger was once my favorite burger restaurant. I used to go there frequently and it was always great. That has unfortunately changed in recent years. Today (a Saturday) I placed an order online. The website said 10-15 minutes wait, which is about how far I live from the restaurant. I got there on time. When I got there, a sign on the door said "please be patient, we are understaffed." This is pretty typical as many places these days are understaffed. There were three employees in the restaurant, one at the front taking orders and serving the food to the customers, and there were two cooks in the back. There were at least 10 people in line and another 10 people seated when I got there. I patiently waited in the chairs near the front. I overheard the staff saying to other customers that they were 30-40 minutes behind. The man at the front walked by me several times as he was delivering food to seated customers. After the line subsided 30 minutes after I arrived, I decided to have him check on my order. He handed me two bags that had been sitting in front near one of the monitors since I arrived. The table where the takeout orders usually are were filled with dirty trays from other customers. There are no garbage cans in the restaurant and they clearly couldn't keep up with cleaning the tables. I was initially very sympathetic with the staff since they were obviously overwhelmed but that changed after I found out the order had been ready the entire time I was sitting there. The food taste and quality has also gone from great to mediocre. It's sad to see this once great restaurant...

Walked in to a mostly empty restaurant which was odd because I thought it was right during the usual dinner rush. It picked up though as I ate and when I left there was a normal amount of customers sitting down. It Took a bit for the register to get rebooted and I seriously considered walking out because of the atmosphere. I’m glad I stuck it out though, my burger was extremely fresh and tasted on par with a higher end fast food/sit down restaurant burger. The fries were crispy and fresh as well. The staff were somewhat intimidating when I first walked in because they were all trying to figure out how to restart the register and I wasn’t greeted for a few minutes (guess it worked out though because it gave me some time to figure out what I wanted to order). Once I sat down though they were extremely attentive and very pleasant. The only thing not 5-star was the atmosphere, it could use a deep clean (nothing was gross but you could tell the floor needed a good mopping) and there were a few flys that were buzzing around but to be honest the food trumped all the negatives for me. I can see why it’s not everyone’s favorite place but for my first time ever eating at a Smashburger, I can say that they won me over after the first...

This place obviously has employees that just don't care. On numerous occasions, they always mess up the order and not just a little bit. A double avocado burger with extra avocado ordered that doesn't get any avocado, or other toppings. Missing a smash fry, smash tots swimming in a puddle of oil. A shake with out the requested chocolate added. All of this just on one trip. The last half dozen trips we have gone always had something wrong. We will not go here any more and if you want to actually get what you order I wouldn't suggest this to restaurant to anyone.

Well we broke down and tried Smashburger again this past weekend (6-25-22) and they did not disappoint! The regular tots were crisp and flavorful and the burgers were made correctly. Although the avocadoes were a little too black/dark brown and I wish I could have added onion straws to my burger. I'm still hesitant to give anything higher than 3 stars right now, but if we continue to go here and the quality stays consistent, I will...
