Doma - the restaurant that will give you the biggest eye rolls free of charge for very undercooked pasta.
To future diners: apparently the Doma hostess has a self-instated policy that she has a 15 minute grace period to seat all diners late without apology, even if you have a reservation, and will give you the BIGGEST eye roll free of charge when you give her feedback (well they charge for the eye rolls included in the 20% service fee they slap on for inconveniencing them with a 1k dinner).
I highly do not recommend coming to Doma with a large group (we were 9) if you are expecting pleasant service or if you want your bachelorette to feel special in any way. My biggest regret is recommending this restaurant after thinking the food was good when I ate here while living in Miami in 2021.
So sorry, hostess of Doma who seated us 23 minutes late at 8:30pm after we arrived at 8:07, did we inconvenience you for selecting your restaurant for our bachelorette dinner? Was it such an inconvenience that you had to lie that we arrived at 8:17 and that your restaurant had this 15 minute grace period for yourself? Unheard of.
Our group walked in three times to ask when we would be seated. Once we sat down, the worlds rudest waiter, Carlo per the bill, attempted to serve us. Here are some of the most memorable condescending quotes from the evening when we asked simple dining questions: “Our portion sizes are small, as we are “gourmet”. Sir, the group I’m with has dined at every Michelin restaurant under the sun, we don’t need you to tell us what that means. Your restaurant is in no means gourmet with your undercooked pasta. We just eat a lot, no need to be rude. “We only charge four credit cards max” before we could even pull out our cards. Don’t worry, we aren’t trying to split the bill 9 ways, but thanks for assuming. “Biggest silent eye rolls throughout the night when we asked if they still had gelato.”
Some feedback for management: if your party of 9 who are here for a bachelorette are waiting for over 20 minutes outside, offer them a free beverage, instead of an eye roll as if you were justified for lying about our arrival time and making us wait outside unattended for that long. I highly recommend every member of your staff read “setting the table” by Danny Meyer to understand what true hospitality is. I’m happy to buy the book for you, just let me know. This is why Miami will never be a tier 1 city with this service and...
Read moreWe came here for happy hour about a month ago. I didn't really know what to expect because our usual spot is Le Chick or somewhere along the main strip of Wynwood. Doma is a little hidden but just a few steps away from Beaker & Gray.
When we arrived, there were only 4 people there and they were all sitting at the bar. I had reservations for 8 people so our table by the bar was ready. FYI, happy hour is only from 6pm to 8pm but the menu looks good. Half off select bites, wine by the glass is around $7 and both classic and signature cocktails are only $6.50 each. Awesome deals indeed!
My group decided to get a bunch of bites to share with the table. We got the Fried Calamari, Grilled Octopus, Mini Lobster Arepa and Mini Piadina. There were only $5 to $8 per item but remember, they're small bites. Overall, everything was pretty good especially the Grilled Octopus. I think we ordered 2 or 3 more because it was superb. The Fried Calamari was my least favorite. They were too salty for my taste. My friend Dan also ordered a Sword Fish from the dinner menu. I remember taking a bite and it was really good. Plus the Chocolate dessert that we had was scrumptious but I don't remember the name.
As far as cocktails, I think we tried all of them but my two favs were the Nairobi's Sunset (olmeca altos blanco tequila, gracias a dios mezcal, mango, orange marmelade, lime juice, angostura) and the Wynwood Tracks (vodka, st. germain, ginger liqueur, raspberry, passion fruit). They were beautifully presented, not too sweet and definitely not watered down. One of my friends got a classic Old Fashioned and it was a nice pour. However, she wished they used an ice ball or block and I agree with her. There's nothing more annoying than sipping whiskey and small cubes of ice slide back on forth from your mouth..lol :)
To sum up, we really had a great time here. The food was decent, the cocktails were definitely well crafted and the service was very attentive. Loved our server! And oh, since Doma is not on the main strip, there's plenty of street parking. Will be back again some time...
Read moreDisappointed with Dōma. To start, the hostess was very nice. Once we sat down, however, the experience changed. We ordered our food, and our plates arrived 2–3 minutes later (not even exaggerating). It was off-putting, and almost felt like they were trying to rush our experience even though we had JUST sat down. The bread that they give the table, didn’t even make it to ours yet (that’s how fast the items we ordered were served). It’s almost as if the plates belonged to someone else, and they sent them back so they gave them to us (very tacky). We didn’t get a chance to enjoy our drinks or even order another round before having to eat our food with our initial drinks. I’ve never been to a restaurant where the whole idea is to leisurely dine and the food comes out that fast—this wasn’t a good fast, this was a concerning fast. This wasn’t supposed to be a fast-food experience.
Our waiter, Giuseppe P., was rude and inattentive, leaving us unattended for a very long time (about 45 minutes to an hour; I could tell based on my parking meter). We had to track him down just to ask for the check. We only asked for the check because he never came back to see if we wanted anything else. So much time had passed that we decided it was time to leave. When he finally dropped off the check, he was very dismissive and didn’t offer a warm parting at all—he simply placed the check on the table and walked off.
When someone has been waiting that long for their check, it should be almost implied that they’re ready to pay sooner rather than later. Despite this, we had to hunt him down again to pay. Once we did, he returned our cards in the same dismissive manner, again without any warm parting, and walked off.
I’m very big on customer service, and I didn’t feel this place had an inviting or attentive staff. We weren’t waited on with care, and I will make it a point to let others know about my experience and to not return. As I read the other reviews, it seems others had the same service experience. The food is average...
