Pleasantly surprised.
Have been to Grails twice - happy hour on a quiet Wednesday evening and then a fun Saturday night.
Ambiance: chill on the Wednesday, party time on the Saturday!! The Saturday we went, it seemed like half of Miami was celebrating their birthdays. They do an amazing job of celebrating birthdays here. Highly recommend! I feel like they really give that make you feel special birthday experience like a South Beach club but in a fun, relaxed environment, so better. Saturday also had a DJ. Noticed the crowd seemed to be what I'd call 30+. I appreciated that as everyone was enjoying the early 2000s playlist together and just relaxing, having fun. The theme here is NBA/sports. Lots of TVs showing games so I imagine it's a good place for watching.
Food: pretty good, actually! The sliders were the best value, filling and tasty. The wings are up there in price ahem but were a decent size, meaty and cooked perfectly. Flavor could've been a little stronger on the lemon pepper but the buffalo was right on. Great crispy fries. Tamarind ribs - rendee, well-seasoned and glazed in a sauce that was not overly sweet. Ceasar salad was standard but covered in shredded cheese.
Drinks: Expensive to be so weak but it's Wynwood so I guess that should be expected. The mixed drinks highlighted on the menu are truly mixed: made in batches so no edits or substitutions. I'd stick to a liquor and chaser next time. The shots can come in decorative mini-sneakers that can be purchased for keeping.
Service: great on the Wednesday, missing in action on the Saturday. It's been a while since bsiting on the Wednesdays so sorry I can't recall the server's name but he was awesome. At one point, we were 1 of 3 tables so he was able to give us his full attention and care. As for the Saturday... I understand it's hard to manage several tables when the whole place is busy. Maybe they can have someone come around just to keep water filled, give utensils/napkins/condiments. It was always hard to grab our server for these incidentals that keep the meal going. Have to note that the hostess on the Saturday night was so pleasant! She was patient, walked us through the menu, answered any questions we had. She made me excited to come in.
I had a couple preconceived notions about Grails before visiting. They were all thrown out the window. It's a great spot to visit. Looking...
Read moreWalking into the place feels welcoming and attractive to have a great time. As we walked in we were greeted by a lovely front house girl which was very knowledgeable and found us a great spot to watch the NY's basketball game. The place is well ventilated and the majority of the space of the place is enjoyed outside, yet outside doesn't have the drawbacks of being outside as there are plenty of TV's and fans to cool the place and keep you entertained. Colorful lights set the mood for a chill/fun time with your friends without being a loud environment. Sitting down we were greated by Carter (the real show for the night, one of the best services i have recieved from a hookah bar and even at a late time at night!). The menu is found on their website or on a QR code in the tables. Tables are clean, not sticky and the chairs are comfy and tall (for our table at least, as there are other options). Bathrooms are clean and smell nice. The place smells of an open hookah lounge without feeling hot or crouded. We ordered some basic Double-battered french fries and they were delicious. Food was quick to come out and not only ours, but everyone's food came out on a breeze even with the place being PACKED for a Monday. We got there at 10pm and left at 12am when the place closed. On drinks we ordered two LaRubia draft beer which were tasty and cold. We also ordered a pinapple flavoured Hookah named "Kobe". Definetly a spot where they know there hookah's; flavour was on spot, enough charcoal which lasted us 1hour and 30 minutes. The hookah master came out and greated us and he was very well seasoned as a hookah master and gave us a background on the flavour and the mix. The hookah that was given to us was a high quality hookah with an excelent hose, making the experience top notch. I love hookah's my self and this place didn't miss a beat; all hookah's are 60 dollars to start and well worth it as they use quality parts, coconut coals and heat management device. My server for the night was Carter, excelent service from him, always checking on us, giving us recommendations; asked us if this was our first time and guided us. Always kept our complimentary water bottle full and made sure we were doing great. Finally a spot I can retry in wynwood....
Read moreGrails is a 0 on my miami trip so far have 3 more days here. VISIT TAP42 IF YOU WATCH SPORTS, MARCH MADNESS, HOCKEY THEY HAVE IT ALL! ONLY A COUPLE TVS BUT THEY WORK AND CAN BE CONTROLLED. Sadly Visited tuesday evening for happy hour and to watch some college hoops. When we called the young lady named Drea i believe ensured us they were showing all games specifically my creighton vs #1 UCONN. So we ask for reservation she replied she didnt know how to do that, put me on hold ten minutes and told me the manager didnt know either. So we get there we realize this place is hyped up for nothing. It was completely empty looked dirty, inside tables were dusty like no one cleaned them in days. Some tvs were showing crime and killings in Miami scaring us tourist! We were greeted by a confused host. She seemed very nervous and off some thing, she spoke to low or the music was too loud but she did a horrible job helping us. She kept fidegting and laughing when we asked a question instead of answering. We ended up seating ourselves in a empty back yard where it looked like a tornodo swept through there.Hard to find parking. For a tuesday the side parking was unavailable! Charging a 20 percent service and no parking is insane! Automatic service charge! When checking out for a order of fries the waitress didnt tell us it was included and tried to force a additional tip. When asked why not tell us. She replied the20 percent goes directly to the resturant and we are working for free she is trying to become a nurse im school she would appreciate the help. Sorry you have to do better with your business i see it completely failing before summer. Never visited a place and felt like i knew the job better...
