While reading this understand that this review is gonna be a bit on Shah's itself and this specific location. This is probably gonna be a super long review, but if you are new to Shah's and curious to know.. I will let you know.. Now to start off this is an absolute gem for Middletown. When I lived in Norwalk I would stop and get Shah's there at least twice a month. I have been to many Shah's locations.. NYC, Norwalk, Bridgeport, Orange, Stamford, etc... You get the point.. No matter the location the food always hits the spot.
I always get the combo over rice platter, which is chicken and lamb and I add lettuce, mixed salad (cucumbers & tomatoes) and onions. I go with extra white sauce, hot sauce and green sauce on the side. DON'T FORGET A WHOLE PITA ON THE SIDE!!!!!!
The protein itself throughout all locations mentioned have always been well seasoned and not dry. The rice for this location was good at the time I tried it (11:30am, keeping in mind they open at 10am), couldn't say the same for Norwalk's location since they changed their rice. (It's a hit or miss but never terrible).
The lettuce, mixed salad and onions tasted fresh and is why I always enjoy adding it to my platter it gives a nice crunch and always absorbs the sauce well and goes well with the protein. I would say that I haven't tried their hummus or chick peas though, but from observation I do tend to see the bins close to empty.
In addition, I would recommend the whole pita (so does my dog) nice and warm, great to have with the platter, and well sized to enjoy as a separate snack...
The fries varies.. Not really by the location, but how and when you order... If you order on the spot in person.. light and crispy outside, hot, and soft in the middle.. if you doordash for pick up too early and they make it sooner than later... it will become mush and soggy.. caused by how it's packaged to go.. Though I would say as a great addition to munch on in the car with your significant other or by yourself... I would say the can + fries is a great add - on. My girl and I will share a 12oz can of ginger ale and snack on the fries during the car ride home with our dog in the backseat.
Lastly, the hot wings are juicy and moist it has that nice salty fried chicken taste. I would say the "level of crisp" can vary by personal preference, but I would say they are up to my standards. They taste great with the red sauce.
Speaking of the location itself, Parking is reasonable though you may "need" to pay... Expect to be able to park in front (ANGLED PULL IN PARKING SPACES, NOT PARALLEL PARKING SPACES FOR ALL THOSE WHO FEAR PARALLEL PARKING HAVE NO FEAR) depending on the day and/or time, but there is plenty of parking lots to park in, just be mindful you will probably have to walk if you end up parking in a lot though not far.. I would say less than 5 minutes from the nearest lot..
The individual who helped me was very kind and made sure to neatly package my food. I appreciate it.
To wrap this up.. If you are a local to the Middletown area and are curious about this new place in town or just happen to come across this as someone passing by. Please give them a try. I promise you won't be disappointed. I always recommend going inside to order, but if DoorDash makes it more convenient for you I get it. Just don't expect it to be at its finest, but if you got time.. skip the middle man.. walk in, ask the employees about what is what... order, sit down at a table...
Read moreWhat I will say about this place is that the food is so good when it’s made and done correctly. I have never ordered in store only get it Uber to work for me. I at least order from them once even twice a week. And every single time I’ve ordered something is either missing or made wrong. I order two platters with sauce on the side and extra pita, they dump all the sauce into my platter and then forget my pita. And then I have to sit at work with no lunch and lose money because this place is also hard to get a refund from. Really good food but you need to call ahead to make sure they are...
