Having never been to a Freddy's before, nor even having heard what they were about, we recently stopped in to try out their new Midvale location. Ended up ordering their double steakburger, wife got a chicken sandwich, and we later got a shake to share.
Food selection appears to be standard "diner" fare; burgers, sandwiches, shakes and such. Decor is clean and pleasantly style in an equally predictable "diner" atmosphere with obligatory oldies music playing in the dining area.
The biggest surprise was the meat. I was expecting a "steakburger" to simply be a dime-a-dozen hamburger patty that's just made with higher quality meat. Boy, was I wrong. The patties are about as thin as a crepe and hang well over the edges of the bun. Where the two patties met in the middle they were still no thicker (combined) than one Wendy's Jr patty. However, because they're so thin, they are cooked a bit crispy, really bringing out a good, beefy flavor. Anyone with any cooking experience knows that there's a lot of flavor in the perfectly browned bits of seared meat, and these patties are so thin they're basically just patties of 100% seared beef.
That said, remember that this was my first Freddy's visit. For all I know, they ARE supposed to be standard burger patties and they just had Popeye working the grill, smashing the crud out of their meat.
In either case, I was pleasantly surprised. There was a lot of flavor packed into that burger. The chicken sandwich left more to be desired, though. The meat was well cooked but was admittedly a bit bland. Could have been seasoned better (or, at all). Shakes were good quality; on the pricey side, but tasty. The classic custard flavor really wasn't apparent in the shake we got, which was a bit disappointing.
Overall, I'd recommend trying them out. We may go back once or twice, but I doubt this will be a regular place for us. Was good, but nothing to...
Read moreI've been to Freddys in the Denver area couple of times and really loved the food so I was super excited to see a location in Midvale - near where we were staying. We went in on a Saturday evening and it was packed. They were so busy and we almost left but one of the cashiers made eye contact with me and she smiled and said they would get to us soon. There were a couple people working up front and even though they were so busy they were still smiling and having fun with the customers. It says a lot about the staff and the management when you see employees working hard and still having fun. IT seemed like everyone waiting in line or for their food were happy to do so because the atmoshpehere so upbeat. When it was our turn to order the young lady who helped us had a huge smile the whole time and was just super at her job. We asked her to see the manager - I just wanted to let them know how well we were treated by her. When they pointed him out - he was in the back near the grill hustling with the rest of the staff - and he too was grinning and having fun. It just made the experience that much better to see him working so hard with everyone else. I didn't want to pull him away but I asked his name (Trevor - I hope - I heard right)... He was amazing. Thank you Trevor and and everyone who works at this location. You guys are doing an amazing job! I will definitly be letting people know how great it was and hopefully we will make it back in again before we leave Utah. Nice...
Read more*Update - I had this Freddy's location 5 star, and as you can see my initial review comments below I only had great things to say about my experience(s).
That is no longer the case. The last few visits to this establishment has almost been a complete 180°. The staff and/or management must have changed. Customer service provided is essentially zero, my order has been incorrect consecutively (i.e. missing a whole part of what was ordered and paid for), and the most frustrating issue has been their blatant misinformation about any mistakes they make, including (what I consider to be contentious lies) their hours of operation. I understand that can change due to unforeseen circumstances but not when it repeatedly occurs and when you call in to ask when they close for the night- you get and answer - show up atleast an hour prior to that time and they're closed up. All lights off, dark as night inside, which means they closed quite some time earlier. I have been seeing more and more of the same experiences posted by others in their reviews, thus this is systemic. You have lost a long time customer and will continue to at the rate you're going. I recommend you study up on reputational risk. Cheers!
(Initial review) never been disappointed with an order. Freddy's is in the top 2 best burger and shake restaurants that isn't the traditional sit down waiter types. And since they added cheese...
