I have visited this store where everyone was extremely nice and the food quality was great at the Milpitas store. The recommendation came from one of the owner's friends who helped and supported the owner to open this business. Since Milpitas is out of my way I went to the truck in Sunnyvale. The worker named "Mithu" is extremely rude. First time he put vegetable cutlet and fried fish stuffed in one box where one of the chops was broken. But in order to save space he did not even give us the second order of the vegetable cutlet so I called and he asked me to go back and pick it up. I could not on the same day and it was an inconvenience to me so I went there a few days later. Mithu person kept on saying that I will give the vegetable cutlet for free which it was not. I paid for something which he did not give me in the first place which he failed to understand. Today I was there where one of the fish pieces was so small that it looked like more than half the piece was missing. When I called and spoke with Mithu he asked me to get lost and asked me to complain to the owner and that he does not care. Then he asked me take back the order when I already reached my home and was ready to eat my dinner. He said 'stop eating and bring back the food' which I refused to do. He has no customer service experience, is extremely rude and has a sexist attitude- he ignored me when I was speaking with him in person and went off to talk about something else to make a point that he could not articulate properly. I guess since their number of customers have gone up they do not really care about service or even the food anymore. Called the Milpitas store to talk to the owner where I was told that the owner cannot talk to the customer as he is busy and no one knew when he will come come to the store even though I keft my phone number. I guess I can see where the employee gets his inspiration to behave this way and having such a bad attitude. Really dissapointing. A restaurant like this starts out good and after some time when they gain popularity they start mistreating customers by hiring people who are extremely rude. Probably this rude employee is a relative or a friend of the owner which is why he does not care. This worker behaves...
Read moreWe were searching for Diwali Sweets and Calcutta Chaat & Bakery caught our eye. We visited them today and found the experience delightful. The staff is very warm and welcoming, nice ambience and about food- well that's next topic.
To begin with, we had Misti Doi (A typical Bengali Sweet Yogurt) and Sandesh (Jolvora Gurer Sandesh) typically prepared using Jaggery made from sap of date Palm ( or from Sugarcane). Both were excellent, but the Sandesh was out of this world. We did order 4-5 more plates of Sandesh and Misti Doi.
Next was Fuchka- (Paani Poori) 7 Pieces can filled with potato and masala and separate container for Pani Puri water. We found the taste to be amazing, but by same token, Pani Puri is a tough act. All the people have different expectations and it is difficult to meet them all. This is typical street version with mild masala and water. We loved it, but I am sure some connoisseur's of pani puri may find it underwhelming due to mildness. I would not want to change anything and every time I go next, I will be ordering Fuchka.
Jhal muri a version of Bengali Bhel was next in our course and we loved it due to its simplicity. I am pretty sure, this dish they can make it more spicier as they add thinly cut green chilies and just by adding more, they will be able to satisfy a large crowd.
We also tried Dahi Fuchka and found it little below par. Not that there is anything wrong with it. It is just that all the other dishes were exemplary and this was very good, so it scored comparatively less.
We also tried Street King Egg Roll and it was very good.
We also tried Calcutta Style Vegetable Cutlet (Made with Beetroot Masala) - a Very healthy snack. We did not buy this snack, but this was given to use for tasting by a fellow foodie AG who was visiting with his family and he forced us, with such an affection/love that we could not refuse. Thank you AG. This is the only time I have tried Beetroot filled cutlets in USA. If you are coming here, this is a must try dish.

Read moreThis was my first visit to this place. This is located in a small complex with about 15 car parking. The parking of the next lot could possibly be used. This is the same place with Everest momo food truck. The restaurant is big enough to accommodate about 25 customers at a time. Based on the existing reviews, I wanted to try the egg roll. Yes, Calcutta egg roll did meet my expectation. It reminded me the taste of Calcutta street food. The egg roll had the correct amount of sliced onion, cucumber and sauces. This is different compared to "Kathi roll" as being served in other restaurants in bay area. Most of the restaurants use frozen lachha paratha for the roll. This was not the case for this place. It was really good. I would give 9 out of 10 for the egg roll. But I was not too happy with most of the other items I ordered. Even chicken in the chicken egg roll was not that great. Other than the rolls we ordered Aloo Tikki chaat, Gobi manchurian, paneer puff, misti doi and chocolate cake. For the aloo tikki chat, the chhole was too dry, it was worse with the tikki. Not enough chutney/ onion...1 out 5. Gobi manchurian - The cauliflowers were fried well, they were crispy but the sauce did not do a justice, seems to be prepared with sweet chilly sauce off the shelf. 2 out of 5. Paneer puff - It was not puffy/ flaky. The stuffing lacked taste. Chocolate cake - The taste was good but it was dry, must have been on the shelf for a while. Misti doi - It was good, just as it should be!! Overall experience...
