My wife and I aren't cake people so we decided to go with Purple Door as our wedding dessert. It is one of our absolute favorite places to finish date night. If you are having an event Purple Door has some of the best catering options around at very reasonable prices. We also love how they use local businesses to source their ingredients.
The best value is going with a flight. That way you get 4 mini scoops and are able to try many flavors. I think it is safe to say that I've tried and reviewed more flavors of their ice cream than anybody that doesn't work there!

Read moreI made my way to Purple Door after a meal in the Historic Third Ward. They produce and churn their own ice cream, which is really impressive. There were plenty of people eating outside and a substantial line to order. Waffle cones, sugar cones, GF cones, as well as some vegan ice cream are available.
I tried Butter Pecan and Road Gravel. Both were very smooth and creamy. In my opinion, the Butter Pecan wasn't sweet enough, and the Road Gravel was a touch too salty. But both tasted like their respective ingredients and flavors.
I think this establishment should consider descriptions of the flavors underneath the names. Flavors like Sour Cream Strawberry and Vanilla are self explanatory, however, The Bees Knees and Road Gravel are ambiguous names and almost everyone in front of me asked what both of these were. This would go a long way for speeding up the line and helping customers narrow down their selections.
Overall, I think the ice cream was creamy and tasty, but think I may have picked the wrong flavors. Definitely worth another visit and like that they make their own ice cream. But far from the best ice cream shop...
