My wife and I stopped in for dinner before going to a concert at First Avenue. I had Fish & Chips and she had Greens & Grain with Salmon. The food was excellent. Unfortunately, the rest wasn't. Staff were generally rushed and rude - the guy that brought out our food seemed genuinely surprised that we also wanted cutlery, and when we mentioned we were still waiting for drinks, pretty much said that wasn't his job. My wife ordered a ginger-cherry mocktail, and was given a can of ginger beer instead. When we asked about it, the server said about the drink being flavored. No, they got the order wrong. Of course, by this point, we couldn't really follow up. While we were eating, a band started playing. Very, very, loudly. We were not near the stage but we had no chance of conversation. The band there was louder than the one we saw later at First Avenue. And then the check comes, and there is a 5% service charge (not a tip!). Apparently, the service charge is in the fine print on the menu, but that's exactly the sort of dickery that makes me not want to back to a restaurant. Oh, and the first beer I tried to order, they were out of. And the second beer I tried to order, they were out of. Excellent food, I don't plan to go back anytime soon. Update: I appreciate the General Manager reaching out and offering to remedy the situation. The correct remedy is to take the 5% service charge off your menu (and yes, raise your prices and pay your servers appropriately). I won't be back as long as that service charge...
Read moreFood was pretty good but the service was a little weak. Our server seemed to keep forgetting that we were there. Forgot the drinks, then the menus, then taking our order. Both of my beers were underpoured by at least a half inch. And it wasn't busy at all. Then another person brought the food and when he was handing me the wrong plate, I politely corrected him and he gave me a look like I just kicked his dog. The food itself was pretty good. My reuben was well stacked with house cooked corned beef and it was well trimmed so there wasn't a bunch of fat in it. My nephew had the cod fish and chips and said it was excellent. Interestingly, he also ordered a desert and when asked about the deserts, the server rattled off a few and he picked one. Then I heard another server rattle off the desert list and it was a completely different list than the one we were given. A part of me didn't want to go today because I had been there on one other occasion a couple of years ago when while sitting at the bar, I had a couple of pints and the bartender just stopped serving me. He ignored several times when I asked for another beer and finally I just left. So, it's highly unlikely I'll be back anytime soon. There are plenty of places in town to get good beer, fish and chips, and reuben sandwiches so there's no need to put up with...
Read moreFelt like a restaurant that couldn’t decide what kind of place it wants to be. Feels like a party place where the staff doesn’t really want to be there… but they offer promotions and a brunch menu with fare similar to what you might find in NE?
Showed up post brunch rush on the weekend and the host was no where to be found. We looked around couldn’t find anyone. Walked out to the patio and three different servers passed us and didn’t interact with us or offer assistance. Finally got someone from the bar to seat us - still no server for 5 min. Had to ask a second time to get a server. The server took our orders and left. Did not bring utensils or water.
When our food came we got a bit more service and attention but overall not a place I’d choose to spend $20 plus for brunch. If it were rush or short staffed I’d excuse the experience because we’ve all been there trying to juggle 80 things at work. But there were maybe 8 tables booked when we came in. Food was great but def a place I’d only choose for cheaper meals and party bar experience with service like this.
The poutine fries were better than I was expecting. A bit salty, but that’s part of the dish. The added corned beef was a nice touch. The sunrise...
