I visited the Depot Tavern while on a day trip in Minnesota with a friend. We were seeing a concert next door and I begun to feel sick to my stomach, so after learning that the Target Center was not an actual Target, I went ahead and went into the Depot Tavern hoping to grab a drink to quench my thirst. I sat at the bar for easy service and when I was approached, I informed Camille that I’d just like a glass of ice water to begin. She said that I had to order something for her to give me a glass of water... Which I had fully intended to do, however, what kind of restaurant/bar wont allow you to have a beverage while you decide? Because of this, I decided against ordering anything food wise from the menu and ordered the cheapest thing I could find which was a slice of tomato. The lady looked very upset with my order and then proceeded to tell a coworker about my order, in which they were both scowled at me and lowered their voices when they realized that I was making direct eye contact with them. I received a glass of water with no ice. At this point, I was frustrated and no longer even wanted to be inside the building. I am huge on respect. I took a few sips off of my water and left after paying for my tomato. The business lost a paying customer who was more than happy to order food and tip generously because of a bartender with a poor attitude.
And with this, I would also like to note that I too work in the food business in a similar setting. I understand the frustration of people ordering a low priced item, or a water without getting anything extra. However, I still treat every person with the same positive demeanor regardless if they are fifteen years old or sixty-seven years old, or if their tickets are...
Read moreI came in to meet with friends after a show at First Ave and was rebuffed by the bouncer. I'm aware that he has a job to do and was watching out for their place of business; in fact, the bouncer himself did a great job, politely explaining that a server had reported someone they identified as me "bouncing off of walls" staggering down the street. When I explained that I'd recently injured my foot and had a bit of a limp, he called his manager to chat with me, which was all great- he was doing his job, and when faced with a complicated situation, he deferred to her. Not complaining about that.
My complaint is that I spoke with a manager, who should have been receptive to my injury and been able to analyze the situation at hand, and was simply told to leave while friends waited for me inside and people who were visibly intoxicated were permitted entry. It was jarring and offensive, and turned an otherwise entertaining night out with friends into a cold and miserable evening, pushed out on my own on account of, as best I can figure, a mild injury disrupting my normal gait (combined with a failure to assess the situation more closely or communicate with the staff member who'd reported the "stagger").
I've been here before, and you know what you're getting. It's an alright establishment that thrives on ordinary bar food and drinks sold at inflated rates to the crowds spilling over from 1st Ave. If they won't permit entry to those crowds, however, their last bastion of worthwhileness (their nearness to exciting shows) dwindles quickly to nothing. I will not be returning to this location after shows in the future- there are better places...
Read moreReally disappointed in this place. On a Friday evening around 9:00pm two of my friends and I walked in and sat down at a high top. We were pretty excited to try out a spot that seemed to be a fun atmosphere next to an iconic venue.
There was at least 4 servers and 2 bartenders and we didn't get helped at our table. However, the table next to us was being served. We had to walk up to the bar to place our drink orders. We didn't mind doing that so much, but rather when clearly our 3rd was up at the bar -- we were approached by a server, who then brought our shots to us? After placed the order at the bar? So now we had to tip her? Even though we did all the work? Super annoying.
Furthermore, when I went into the 2-stall ladies room (two of the servers, one with blue hair/one with green hair) both came into the restroom and went into the same stall together. Odd to say the least. I was at the single crowded sink when they came out, and they turned around and walked right out to the bar serving again --- not washing their hands. I literally heard one girl say out loud, "eh, I'll wash later." Seriously?
We were going to stay for another round and food: but left immediately after a single round. Honestly, I wish I had cash just so I could've left even sooner.
No one working there was smiling during service --that is, unless they ran into some of their friends-- which they stopped to talk to for some good time.
I won't be coming back and spending any...
