Candyland — Local services in Minneapolis

Candy Land in downtown Minneapolis is one of my favorite places. I absolutely love this store — from the amazing variety of nostalgic candies to the caramel and cheese popcorn that keeps me coming back. I spend a lot of money here on a weekly basis because I genuinely enjoy the products.

However, the customer service — specifically from one employee named Daniel — is consistently disappointing. Every time I’ve interacted with him, he’s cold, unwelcoming, and overly stingy. If you ask for a popcorn sample, he’ll give you two pieces, as if you’re asking for a full bag for free. It’s honestly uncomfortable.

Today was a good example. I went in for the second day in a row. Yesterday, I redeemed my $10-off punch card but still spent $33. When I returned today and asked to receive punches for that purchase, Daniel told me I couldn’t because I had redeemed a reward. I told him I’ve received punches in the past in that exact situation and asked him to call a manager. He eventually did — and turns out, he was wrong. He ended up having to give me my punches, but did so with zero apology or acknowledgment.

He acts like he owns the place and like every kernel of popcorn and punch is coming out of his own pocket. It puts a damper on what should be a fun and simple experience.

I always leave a tip at Candy Land — always. But going forward, I will avoid Daniel’s service, and if I end up getting him at the counter, I won’t be leaving one. I love this store, and under normal circumstances, I’d be giving it five stars — but because of my repeated experiences with Daniel, I’m...

I am born and raised in St. Paul, MN so I am no stranger to Candyland. I LOVE it there. My favorite is chocolate covered potato chips and Chicago mix poocorn. My husband and I visited on 4/11/25 at around 9pm. The candy was delicious as always but 2 problems, we bought 4-5 different kinds of candy and it was all shoved into the same paper bag (mixed together) and today (4/14/25) we checked our bank account and we were charged twice for our order. So we had to call the bank which I hate. One of the employees who was off work was talking to the employee who was helping us so much it was obvious she was distracted. He was standing in the customer area (which was busy) chit chatting the whole time. My advice is give a heads up to the staff that when the store gets busy, pay attention to the cutomers. This place is amazing. They have popcorn of all flavors and candy from gummies, jaw breakers, sweet, sour, chocolates, and classic sodas and much more. You would get confused and lost in this place with excitement. I came here for the first time and went nuts and came out with a big bag of popcorn and a sample of gummy candy. It’s been around for a long time and it’s a great place located conveniently in downtown by all the hotels and Nicollet Mall. It’s like a mini paradise in downtown. If you are a fan of popcorn like me, they sell them in tins, buckets, bags and samples. You get to try a little of everything before you buy.
