We got there about 10 am on a Sunday, and the place was mostly full. Good for them. It was cold, and I had been hoping to get hot chocolate, which they didn't have. Bummer. But it was ok, because I was really craving biscuits and gravy, and they did have that. However, we had to wait around 15 minutes for the server to come back after giving us water so we could place our order. I ordered the biscuits with country gravy, and my boyfriend got a skillet. He was offered a choice of English muffin, white, or wheat toast. We found out later that they also had biscuits (which were listed on the menu to be fair), sourdough, and rye toast (which were not). The server told our table-neighbors this, but not us. When we got our food (about 45 minutes after getting there), it was...disappointing. My gravy had mushrooms in it, which are not a standard part of country gravy, not listed on the menu, and I hate. The hashbrowns were cooked well, but had no seasoning at all. The scrambled eggs looked kind of rubbery and were just as bland as the hashbrowns. To quote my boyfriend, the food wasn't terrible, it was just kind of sad. Very bland, mediocre food with a long wait. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt since they're new, but the hostess was saying that they've already "worked out all the kinks", so I don't know. Overall, not worth the year and a half I...
Read moreThis small cafe has community at its heart, which is why I gave it an extra star. Many coffee shops don't see as such a variety of customers, but Muffin Top does and does their best to accommodate them, leading the staff to go the extra mile when needed. However, the atmosphere is different that other coffee shops; I came here to study, and at times found that difficult to do. Ultimately though, there wasn't too much distraction and I can empathize as it's a public establishment. Furthermore, a great perk of this place is that it's open later than the majority of other cafes. At night, it becomes less of a cafe and more a bar (I was working while staring at a lot of alcohol) but I think it's a fair tradeoff for the extended cafe-esque experience. The food here is nothing to rave about, but the prices are very reasonable. I wouldn't recommend coming here to zone in on work, but if you're mind chilling in a casual environment then this is a nice spot. Some immediate fixes to raise a star would be to consider adding a bottle of Febreeze and a coat hook in the bathroom and to fix the loud ventilator sound the door makes every time someone walks in. I'd return here and would even recommend this place...
Read moreWas in the neighborhood and wanted to try a local Cafe instead of a chain. Big mistake. Came in, and almost thought I was in the wrong place as I wasn't greeted, even when I stood at the counter waiting for a few minutes. I saw the worker was working on something, so I gave it a couple minutes and looked over the menu and food items. I got a muffin, donut, and smoothie. Muffin was terrible, no flavor, dry and unpleasant. Donut was a raspberry Bismark with white icing, actually pretty good! (sidenote: Not what I ordered, I ordered the long john) Only downside was the dryness of the dough. I got a Strawberry banana smoothie, and it was okay. Overall, a cool looking place, but poor service, mixed bakery items...
