I don’t post reviews because I was a server for 6 years, and completely understand when things go wrong. But this was truly one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had in my life.

My partner and I came for an early dinner. Just the two of us. To start, our server forgot the two things we asked for - spicy Mayo and miso soup. I had to remind her we asked for it. Fine, maybe she was busy. But this was after she didn’t take our drink order until we had already finished two rolls of sushi. When she finally brought our drinks, she generously left us 1 (one) napkin… to share. Ok. All of this, I could have lived with. She didn’t apologize for being inattentive, but it’s ok. Like I said, I was a server for 6 years. I get it, these things happen.

My patience ran out when she publicly and loudly scolded us halfway through our meal. Though she couldn’t be attentive to us for normal stuff, like what we ordered, she was attentive when we did something “wrong.” My partner got a tea and I got a soda. He took a sip of my coke at one point after eating something spicy. Suddenly, she was magically right at our table, informing us that drinks aren’t allowed to be shared “but she’d let it slide because he bought a tea.” Let me note too that our bill was $80 - we weren’t being scummy or cheap. He took ONE sip of my pepsi, and I wasn’t flagging her down for a refill, either. After spending $80 only to get scolded and having to constantly remind her to do her job, I honestly just wanted to leave.

It was a really embarrassing and uncomfortable experience. She said she was a manager and that she had been there for a few years, but based on how she treated us I couldn’t tell. We won’t be back ever, and will recommend friends to stay away.

Too bad, because the sushi and desserts were actually pretty good. Magnificent and delicious, actually. It was a 10/10 experience that got brought down to a 1/10 because of our awful, hostile,...

Good food but bad service! :( We were told that there was a 25 min wait and gave our name and number. Ended up waiting almost an hour before we asked about our table. We were told we were being seated next. Then we waited 30 min more and checked a second time with the host, since we were the only people left waiting. We had seen multiple people that came after us get seated. We were also waiting right by the host stand for almost 60 min so she could definitely see us waiting.

Turns out the host had forgotten about us… After waiting for almost an hour and a half, next to the host stand. I was upset and made a sarcastic comment about having to wait longer, which I do regret saying. We had been crossed off the waiting list by mistake, which was a genuine accident. However, the host then told me that I was being rude to her as we were being seated. Shortly after starting our dinner we were interrupted again by a server not assigned to our table. She told me that the host was having a bad day and I was told to apologize to her.

I am very sorry that the host was upset by my comment, but I find it VERY inappropriate that an uninvolved server came up to us while we were eating to bring up very specific personal issues about what was going on in the host’s personal life. I do think I could have handled the situation better on my end, but being asked “how I can make it up to the host” was way over the line. The interaction was over and it did not need to be brought up again.

As a note, the actual server assigned to our table went out of her way to ensure we had an enjoyable experience after this situation.

I have really enjoyed eating at Sushi Train for a while now and the food is great for the price range. But I don’t feel comfortable going there again knowing that I may have another bad experience like this. We will not be returning. This...

BEWARE OF FRAUD/EXTRA CHARGES!!!

We recently ate at Sushi Train to try a new experience with sushi as part of our stay in Minneapolis.

The initial fee for the food was $109 USD which is $162.38 CAD, keep in mind there is no tip added to this bill. The next day, by the time I got home back to Canada I got refunded my $162.38 CAD and then charged $184.65 CAD. This extra charge was not authorized, nor was there any indication on the receipt that a tip had been included. This is a clear case of fraud, and I find it deeply concerning that such practices are taking place without any accountability.

Robert was the name of our server that night which he seemed distracted and all over the place as soon as we sat at our table, i’m not trying to point fingers or anything but in hindsight, I regret not checking the reviews more thoroughly before dining here, as many others have reported similar experiences. You guys proceed to say “we strive to provide the best customer service and will look into it” in all your responses to similar issues/reviews yet do nothing towards actually fixing it!

I have taken legal action’s towards this and the restaurant! I strongly urge potential diners to be cautious and fully review any charges, as it seems the establishment is not doing enough to ensure transparent and fair billing practices. It is disappointing to see a restaurant fail to act on repeated complaints, and I hope my experience serves as a warning to others.

Please refer to the attached receipts as proof of the fraudulent charges:

Response to owner: The lack of clarity and accountability is concerning as a restaurant that claims to value transparency but continue with inconsistent responses. (Refer to the last two photos for proof)

Yet again I hope my experience serves as a warning to others looking to eat at...

We had a delightful, light dinner here. The only drawback was that items off the conveyer were no longer cold. It was late (after 8pm) and some slushy snow and ice kept the sensible people indoors that night, and then there's COVID-19, so there were very few people in the restaurant, which undoubtedly contributed to slow turnover on the line. We got tuna sashimi, edamame, ika (squid) salad, and a Fancy Tuna Roll off the line and tobiko gunkan, unagi (eel) nigiri, and miso ramen off the menu. Like other conveyer-style sushi restaurants, prices at Sushi Train are based on the color plate they come on, so you just keep your stack of small plates until you are done, and they total your order from that. A few menu ordered items, like the ramen, are exceptions. Prices for conveyer items range from $2.75-$6.25, and favor the higher end of that range. In general, we found the items of good to excellent quality. Most notable was the unagi and the ramen. The eel was freshly grilled and hot, the way it should be. Note, however, that I ordered from the menu so it was made fresh, not off the conveyer. The miso ramen was the real start of the night, thought, being a delicious combination of miso soup and a traditional ramen with egg, fishcake, and other garnishes. The only real complaint about the food was that the edamame needed a bit of salt. If you've looked at Sushi Train's menu and wondered, like I did, why the sushi rolls are so cheap, it's because they are only 4 pieces, rather than the 6 or 8 you might get elsewhere. I actually consider this a plus, because I don't have to commit to a $15+ eight piece roll, especially if I'm the only one who will be eating it. My wife and I were able to pick individual favorites without having to consider whether the other person liked it too.

I should have made this review long ago. Back in September 2023: I had the pleasure of dining at Sushi Train in downtown Minneapolis, and it was an experience that left a lasting impression for me and my friends. While I am not a large sushi person myself more of the Ramen type all of my party raved about all the sushi they ate. You can see the stack of plates we devoured attached. What sets Sushi Train apart is not just the exceptional food but also the unique dining experience it offers. The concept of a sushi train circulating the restaurant adds an exciting and interactive element to the meal. It's a must-try for anyone looking to elevate their dining adventures. However, what truly made our evening exceptional was the outstanding service provided by our waiter, Tanya. Her warm demeanor and genuine enthusiasm added an extra layer of enjoyment to the entire dining experience. Tanya's attentiveness, coupled with her humor, created a welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home. If she is no longer working there Sushi Train lost one of their bests. In a city filled with dining options, Sushi Train stands out as a gem. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking not only delectable Japanese cuisine but also a memorable and entertaining dining experience, thanks to the exceptional service and memories I will never forget Tanya!
