I have had the pleasure of dining at the Bonefish Grill in Destin on numerous occasions over the last few years. The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing. I usually like to sit in the bar area in a booth, it is less formal and the booths are comfortable and more private. Seafood is obviously the speciality at Bonefish. I often have a house salad as an entree with a topping of salmon, shrimp or chicken. Both are good; I generally like the salmon and order it cooked medium. It is a light meal and still filling. There is often a "special menu" with a few dishes that are not on the menu. On this occasion, there was "dinner for two" special for about $42. It included salad, choice of a few entrees, and a large dessert (key lime cake) to be split between two people. We had that on this occasion. It was excellent, a good price for the quality and quantity, and we took some home to eat at a later time. The key lime cake was large and more than enough for two people sharing a dessert. My dining companion loves their crab cakes and often orders them as an appetizer with house or caesar salad. For a Fall special, the restaurant offers swordfish with pumpkin ravioli. That seems like a strange combination but the flavors are complimentary and it is very good. There is also a good wine list at Bonefish and the service has always been very good at this Bonefish. The prices are also reasonable for the quality of the food and the atmosphere.

Well...where to start? So I order crab cakes for starter, they turned up well after my wife's appetizer showed up and these were decent, no real complaint. The wife ordered mussels, half of these weren't open, I enquired with our server and she said they'd bring another bowl out. She then returned to tell us they are all coming out like that and they would remove them from the bill. The ones that were edible were really nice. Our mains arrived before the appetizers were finished, seems to be a theme around this area. Again these missed the mark, my mahi mahi and shrimp were both over cooked. The wifes pasta with jumbo shrimp was rather spicy, but with no mention of any chilli or spice in the description on the menu, which meant she struggled to eat it. Then when the check came the mussels were still on there, so we had to have the awkward conversation to get them removed. Such a shame as their menu looks good. Probably wouldn't go back, or recommend.

Fancy looking seafood place. We, a group of five, walked in for dinner on a Saturday evening without reservation, and had to wait for at least 20-30 minute to get the table. The ladies working in the front desk was not very friendly. The place was very busy. The server was super cute and friendly. He brought us two rounds of complementary house baked breads, and refilled our coffee. The food was good but little expensive. All Of us mostly ate grilled fish and that was yum. However, the wait time for the food to arrive was long ! Also We had to wait a long time for the check to appear. Another bad experience was, one of the glass was not clean, had the mark of lipstick, Which was absolutely rubbish and unexpected from a fancy restaurant. However the server changed that as soon as we told him about that and apologized.

Generally speaking Bonefish Grill provides a great experience and scores well in each category. I write this review with the mindset that “a chain restaurant is a chain restaurant” and, despite attempts by numerous companies, they will always be limited by the corporate beast. Is this a truly unique dining experience that you could tell stories of to your grandchildren? No. Is this a quality establishment that offers fantastic food, excellent drinks, and fair service? Yes. I’ll be the first to tell you that I am “that guy” who orders non-seafood whenever I go to a place clearly a “specialist” in the area of cooking things that once swam. My poison is usually the fillet mignon and I can’t say that it has ever disappointed me… I will say that it’s nowhere near as good as McGuire’s (in regards to cooking things that once grazed) but it does the job. They have excellent appetizers and I mean excellent…again though, they aren’t 5 star restaurants good but top of the line as far as chains go. Drinks are pretty much the greatest thing and to this day I can’t say that anyone else makes anything remotely as good. Service is decent but nothing special and given what time of year you go, you may find yourself waiting a while due to limited servers on the floor. One gripe I would bring up is the fact that they changed their menu to something I would consider inferior but even so their current menu offers plenty to enjoy. Dress code however is another topic altogether… I would consider this place one that deemed necessary a certain level of dress (IE: at least a polo and pants… with closed toe shoes) but you will find that dressing in flip flops and a tang top aren’t exactly rare sightings here. I try to be humorous in most of my review but honestly I really do like Bonefish Grill and despite the location I find that the experience is general the same (in a good way). So yes, I would recommend Bonefish as a place to bring a date or the in-laws or just the family after a long day at the...

Please see the update at the end of the review.

BRING A LOT OF EXTRA TIME AND A SET OF WELL LOWERED EXPECTATIONS.

In the past we have often enjoyed Bonefish Grill, both here at the Destin location and at other locations around the country. Unfortunately, the standards have dropped so low that we won't be back.

We decided that date night would be dinner at Bonefish and a movie at the theater across the street. The last time we went to this location the service was slow (anybody can have an off night) so we left plenty of time for dinner, 1 hr 45 minutes. When we arrived at 5 pm we were seated, our beverage order taken, and when the drinks came we were ready to order and ordered our entrees. The waiter was nice and efficient, bringing a bread service and all was well. After 45 minutes we inquired about our food and let the waiter know we were trying to make a show. He assured us the food was beginning to arrive at the window and it wouldn't be long. He brought more bread.

After another 30 minutes, still no food, The other parties around us were not getting their orders either, and one couple got up and left. I asked to see the manager, and after another 15 minutes, a full hour and a half after arriving, the manager showed up carrying out food. To top it off, most of the food was barely warm and appeared to have indeed spent the last 45 minutes "in the window.". The manager agreed that it had been a long wait and she was sorry, but it sounded like she was used to saying it often and we were left to wolf down cold food to try to make our show.

We live here, we have always liked Bonefish, and we won't be back.

After leaving this review Bonefish replied by asking me to contact them through their website so they could resolve my issue. I did indeed contact them at the site they requested and repeated the above post. That was two weeks ago and the only reply I got was spam email about...

Well to start off I got my mom a bonefish gift card for Mother’s Day because she loves this restaurant and I can see why. Me, my girlfriend and my parents celebrated a late Mother’s Day gift which was to eat here at bonefish. Everytime we come it’s always great food and great service. But this time was different our waiter James was excellent! All of us were so impressed by how knowledgeable he was about things on the menu, he kept us informed constantly on when our food and appetizers would come out, and not once did I have to ask for a refill of my sprite and so for the rest of my family’s drinks. I hate when I have to go to restaurants and beg for a refill it’s one of the most frustrating things out there but tonight we didn’t have to deal with that, James was on top of everything! Me and my girlfriend tired one of the dinner specials the bourbon glazed filet mignon with potatoes and we had substituted the broccoli for bacon mac n cheese, trust me I wish they would have that on their normal menu every night it was super good. Best steak me and my girlfriend have ever had and I make pretty good steaks at home but this one was excellent. To add, James had brought boxes out for us to take home and put the date of when we had boxed our food because he understood when you leave boxes in the refrigerator you don’t know how long they have been in there. I would say James went about and beyond for us and we really appreciate that. Plus he was a very nice and all around personable guy. Now this part is for bonefish corporate! Bonefish corporate we live in Panama City, FL and we don’t mind every once in while driving up to Destin and coming to bonefish there but please bring back the bonefish in Panama City we would appreciate it. We were so upset when it got destroyed by hurricane Michael. Anyways to end this off the bang bang shrimp is the best and would recommend...
