I loved it when it was across the street and I love it now. It's a little different and not quite the wide variety of items but plenty of options still. My favorites are as they were Stromboli reigns supreme, eggplant Parm is the best I've had in Kansas City, pizza also the best in KC. New York style big big slices with great sauce. The prices are good too. I got a lot of food and drawer for 4 people spending 50. My wife and I can get dinner for under 20 too. Cheaper than fast food and 1000% times better. Now back to the sauce. Always get extra it's amazing. I love the sauce. The Stromboli and calzone come with sauce but for less than a dollar you get an extra serving of the sauce which is totally worth it... Or be like me abd get 3 extra servings because it's that good. Their sausages are also great and their chicken Parm is very good. Their Italian sandwiches better than any sandwich shop with fresh tasting delicious sliced meat. Or try the house made pasta (everything is house made but people see to get a bigger kick out of house made pasta. The pizza is house made and you get to watch the owner flipping and spinning the dough in the air.) The old location was larger with more space for tables this one is smaller more suited for carry out orders but there are a decent amount of tables inside and the ambiance is good. overall this is one of my all time favorite restaurants I was saddened for years when it closed and oh so...
Read moreOh dear. I SO wanted to love this place. We used to eat at their old location in Mission, back when it was Italian Delight. The food then was so good and we were so disappointed when they closed. You can imagine how happy I was to hear that they were reopening. My husband and stopped in for lunch with high hopes. On the positive side, the service was fast and friendly and the Boulevard Pale Ale (in bottles) was icy cold. My hubby got the eggplant Parmesan sandwich which he deemed “okay.” Not great, not even good, just okay. I got the Pasta e Broccoli which was underwhelming at best. I was literally just pasta tossed in olive oil with a sprinkle of salt, pepper and Parmesan cheese with steamed broccoli. No bread on the side, no sauce on my pasta. To be fair, my pasta was perfectly al dente and the broccoli was steamed just right, bright green and tender but not overcooked. But bland, oh so bland. I also had a house salad which was good, simple but with a tasty vinaigrette.
Oh well. Guess we’ll remember the old Italian Delight fondly and give this new incarnation a miss in the future. But seriously y’all-offer some bread with your pasta dishes. I don’t think I’ve EVER eaten in an Italian restaurant that didn’t offer a little...
Read moreAvelluto’s (the sequel) is somehow even more amazing than their previous masterpiece. Their calzones, lasagna, sandwiches, deserts, salads, homemade mozzarella, Stromboli, chicken parmesan, and OMG their pizzas made by John Avelluto himself are so delicious. He is the Wonka of Pizza craft! You can smell and taste the love and pride they all have in this place.
!!WARNING!! Their calzones are extremely addictive. They are light, crispy, creamy and fresh. I used to order 4 back in the day. They are one of a kind good.
This place has been my most cherished foodie spot forever. So many people felt the tremendous loss when they took a break a couple years ago. Understandable, since they work so hard! There were articles grieving over their closing and more about hopes and rumors of their reopening. I and many others tried hard to find a replacement when they closed their first place. Nothing came close.
My whole family is addicted to this place. I’m so thankful they reopened. I get through my week looking forward to eating there.
Your loss if you skip on Avellutos and take your butt back to Chukie cheese if...
