Our favorite place in town for treats. Great scones and croissants (the fried donuts are sadly no more) early on the weekends, particularly fond of the coconutz bar - if you want something really sweet, and the savory scones.
They started having tasty breakfast sandwiches regularly and the kolaches are also quite good.
Sad that their 39th street location closed, but worth the drive on special occasions now and then.
They do tend to sell out of things early these days, especially if you go for croissants on the weekends. You can place an order with them ahead of time (maybe a day or so) if you want to be sure and get what you want.
... And they are a coffee shop of course, so you can get a good chai, a mocha, a latte, or assorted other hot and cold drinks. They have mixed things up a bit, no longer have an espresso machine and started doing premade drinks in deposit based glass jars.
The staff are always very friendly.
The atmosphere is clean and cozy in a commercial strip mall, but they still have a reasonable bit of seating, although just in one big open shipe space now. I definitely miss the atmosphere and convenience of their 39th Street location, but am very glad that they are still around.
They have a lending library book shelf, with some small kids books among others.
If you haven't been, it is definitely worth going out of...
Read moreOk, so I REALLY want to give a better review because I really want this place to stay in the neighborhood, but as of right now, I don't ever go here even though I could literally walk to it. Hopefully the owner will see this review and want to make these improvements!
Again, I REALLY want Mud Pie to stay right where it is. We need a good coffee shop in the area, not to mention a vegan one. But to get my business, they're going to need...
Read moreWhat a vegan haven in Overland Park! I live in seattle but my mom grew up here and has family here still. I typically assume that my experience as a vegan in Kansas will be terrible, but since Mud Pie came around, that is not the case!
Everything they make is vegan, they don't even have dairy milk in store. Non-dairy milk is no additionally cost (except oat, that's a bit extra).
They have savory options like a breakfast sandwich, sausage cheddar scone, and kolaches.
We went twice in our three day trip and the best things we got were:
Sausage cheddar scone (amazing crunch on the outside, buttery flakes on the inside, delicious flavors) Espresso Chip Muffin Monkey bread (very sweet, tasty apples and raisin, not dry at all) Green onion, cream cheese, and sausage kolache - WOW SO GOOD!! I would like to know what brand vegan cream cheese they use this was delicious. The bread was perfectly soft and the cream cheese was light and not overwhelming. Delicious savory snack. Vegan king cake! Mardi Gras is tomorrow and I've never seen a place with vegan king cake. Looks like some people places pick up orders for full cakes!
We will 100% be back whenever we make the trip...
