Five on Black — Restaurant in Missoula

I loved eating here, but at this point it’s not worth the frustration. i’m not sure what’s going on behind the scenes to make service so bad. had an online order that was confirmed and payed for just to find the location closed upon arrival. attempted calling multiple times the following day during open hours just to not get the call picked up with also no voicemail box set up. decided to go in thinking they were busy, but the restaurant was dead with 4 employees behind the counter. after speaking with an employee, he stated he couldn’t find my order in their system and couldn’t help me, and sent me to seek assistance through where i placed the order. go to check the phone number attached to my order just to find i placed it though google’s direct order platform and had 5 on black’s number attached for assistance purposes. Called them 2 days after i placed the order and they answered the phone immediately, said the order was marked as completed and that he needed to hand me off to a manager. Waited a few moments, then got hung up on. So here i am, trying to get a refund on an order i payed for, drove to go get, did not receive, and have taken over an hour out of my time to not even get my money...

Came here because I saw it on so many "must eat lists" for Montana. The food was good. But my experience around getting the food was not great. I first tried to go to the location on Reserve to find it closed at 7:00 pm. Since I was only here for 1 more day, I didn't want to pass up the chance to eat here. When I finally got to this store around 7:50 pm, they were out of all rice and it was going to be a 20 minute wait for more. Closing time is 9:00 PM. Several other people left because of this, but like I said, I was already here so I had a bowl made with greens. There were flies buzzing around the register and self serve fountain. They were out of rice. Bottom line here is that the food was good, even though what I got was pretty much the only option. Everything was flavorful. Not sure I will be back if I'm in town again. It was a lot of effort for a mediocre experience but tasty food. They did the best they could...

A few months ago I would have given this place 5 stars for food quality and the good price. I got consistently good food for a reasonable price and I ate it at least once a week between the two locations. Since then, they have raised the prices on dang near everything where it is no longer worth the price especially as a regular. It is also $1.50 for an extra ladle of sauce when, without it, you get very dry rice and plain black beans. The portion of tofu also seems to have gotten smaller. I walk out spending $11.50 for a small portion of beans, rice and tofu. I just can't justify spending that for a small rice and beans which is a total bummer because I really do love the food and sauces.

ETA: 1 year later and an extra ladle of sauce is now $1.75. I wanted to go back because I'm craving it, but these prices are not justifiable for what...
