My family and I are foody people and love to try new places. We are from Louisiana and came to Alabama for a graduation. We were recommend Grace and after our experience, we will likely never return and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I would like to start off with the fact that it’s absolutely absurd that there was no high chairs in the restaurant for my family to put our one year old. With very limited parking, we had to walk back five streets over to get a stroller out the car to put her in. Once we were settled, our waitress, a lady named Lois, began taking my family’s orders and didn’t have the best attitude towards anyone other than my grandfather that she wouldn’t stop flirting with. Once our food finally came to the table, I had to send my steak back to get cooked a tad longer, which wasn’t a problem for me. It seemed it was a problem for Lois though. Lois proceeded to place my brother in laws food down on the table. He had a basket of truffle fries that had a metal container of sauce in it that had fallen off and into his plate of steak. The sauce landed all over him and the table, and scared us because it sounded like the plate had cracked in half. Although there was music playing in the restaurant, it wasn’t very loud and, I’m sorry, but there was absolutely no way Miss Lois didn’t hear that. Shelley continued on and didn’t even acknowledge her accident until we had finally mentioned it, quite politely. Once my mom nicely let Lois know, she threw her hands in the air, walking away and didn’t think I would hear her throw out the “f-bomb” as she walked off. Every time Lois came back to the table until we paid our bill she made sure she mentioned that she “wouldn’t spill anything” or to have us hand her everything so she “wouldn’t drop it again” in the snarkiest way. I am never one to complain, but the waitress was out of line multiple times and over all we had three different meals come out cold/room temp. If it weren’t for the gratuity being added for us having a large party, Lois would certainly not have gotten the tip she received.
If you happen to dine at Grace, do try the Wisconsin cheese curds and the blue cheese mashed potatoes. The other waiters and waitresses, and I think the manager, that attended to us while Lois disappeared, and I would assume cooled off, after dropping her “f-bomb” were incredibly nice and attentive. Just make sure you avoid the old lady with the white pixie cut and...
Read moreI've been racking my brain... By the way there's an Alabama racking horse...which is how my brain feels, this speed of hooves turning n moving with alacrity. I cannot encompass "Grace" in those quips and easily slipped, skipped, bouncy eloquent words that I'm searching for.
I have many, they do injustice. Sweet. Relaxed. Smooth. Genuine. Powerful. Creative. Sublime. Joyful. The words are not enough.
The whole family came to dine. Also they are insistent that I do justice to the table experience. Which I'll soundly risk the attempt and miserable I'll feel at a loss.
The staff are experienced, interactive, attentive. We had beautiful food and plenty of choices arrayed on the table. Everyone (of which we had several very serious people who are particularly difficult to please with chefs skills) adored the experience and the food.
We had appetizers of mushroom stuffed with veal and goat cheese, steak filet with a classic hunters sauce (if you know those I'll give you chef points 👍👏 there is a series of them, hunters sauces. Such sauces are for the master of a kitchen not a novice 🫣) pork belly n Brussels sprouts wontons. We had bread to the table. Wine, and cocktails (try any of them...I want to take the menu home and experiment for days). We had lamb shank osso bucco with saffron risotto, steak with asparagus, branzino pan seared with pecan butter reduction (meuniere, that duke...always making delicious stuff) fettuccine with chicken and peppers, pork chop with a classic bearnaise sauce, and a duck n spinach salad.
Ok, this is a highly beloved restaurant by locals, it should be a Destination on your travels in the south. Husband refused salt or pepper, had the tear...that withheld tear in the corner of his eye, which for years has been my Achilles heel and my achievement alone. I truly, for a small second was heartbroken n a bit jellyfish 🪼 green 💚. I swear, that tear is like a Michelin ⭐...it has rarely occurred. My andouille n duck gumbo, hubbys deer chili, and a very elite few other flavors has 'caused it, once one of my creme pate choux in lavender honey and dark chocolate was given a watered eye. I digress, Mobile has a restaurant that takes the gateaux. 🤝👏👏👏👏👏
I cannot flourish more accolades, you need to be ready for beautiful food and take my word,...

5 Stars - Exceptional Experience
Grace restaurant in downtown Mobile exceeded every expectation when they hosted my wife's surprise 50th birthday party for roughly 60 guests. From start to finish, this elegant establishment delivered a flawless celebration that left both us and our guests thoroughly impressed.
Outstanding Food & Service
The culinary experience was nothing short of exceptional. Every dish that emerged from their kitchen was expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The stuffed mushrooms were an absolute hit - rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. But the real crowd favorite had to be the steak tacos, which had guests raving throughout the evening. The quality and taste of every item exceeded what you'd expect even from a high-end establishment like Grace.
What truly set the evening apart was their impeccable service. The staff anticipated every need without being intrusive. Drinks never sat empty, food stations were consistently replenished, and our guests never wanted for anything. The team's professionalism and attention to detail allowed us to focus entirely on celebrating with family and friends.
Perfect Private Dining Space
The private dining room at Grace strikes the ideal balance - intimate enough for meaningful conversation and celebration, yet still connected to the vibrant energy of the main restaurant. Our guests felt like they were part of something special rather than tucked away in a sterile banquet room. The ambiance was sophisticated and warm, creating the perfect backdrop for milestone celebration.
A Night to Remember
Grace didn't just host our party; they helped create memories that will last a lifetime. The combination of exceptional cuisine, attentive service, and elegant atmosphere made this 50th birthday celebration everything we hoped it would be. Our guests are still talking about what a wonderful evening it was.
If you're looking for a restaurant that can handle special occasions with style and grace (no pun intended), look no further than Grace in downtown Mobile. They've set the bar incredibly high for future celebrations.
