We went today 3/17/23 to joe cain Cafe...few people sitting, not crowded. Sat down and about 3 mintues someone took our drink order...then another person brought out the drinks. Said nothing to us and turned and left. We waited ...still no service...then the Friendly son's of st Patrick came in...WE WERE TOTALLY FORGOTTEN ...We waited 15 or more minutes and still Nothing...No Service!!! So we left!! Went to Mama's restaurant and got excellent service and delicious food. My advice Don't Ever go to Joe Cain Cafe on any special occasion or event....you Will be forgotten or take hours for service, if any at all. Will not be back..anytime soon! past review:We have eaten at Joe Cain Cafe' during Mardi Gras yearly and few times when we were just visiting Mobile for other reasons. During Mardi Gras it is very hard to find a seat due to the amount of people and (due to patrons who just sit and hoard seats for hours) . Today, there were no parades or events.. so there were plently of seating. It took a very long time to even be notice when we first sat down, even though the server walked by us several times. Finally, (5-10 minutes later) we were able to order our drinks. Then awhile later we received our drinks and placed our order.. I stated.."...no tomato's.." the waiter repeated correctly our order and stated " No Tomato's".. Our food came.. our drinks were half empty. No, refill offered and walked away quickly. (yes, the waiter was busy.. lots of people came in after us.. we counted how many times he went to the other tables that were there before us and after...5 or more times he went to certain tables.. But our table only the drink and food order time. Finally, the food came.. of course there were Tomato's on the sandwich (which the recipe for the chicken salad wrap must have changed and don't care for it anymore) so could not eat it. The cheesey sticks were delicious and that is what I had for lunch. Finally, about 30 minutes after we were done eating the check came. (we sat there for 30 minutes after done with nothing to drink and no service) So glad we had the exact amount plus tip.. because we would have been there who knows how long to get someone to take the money or even make change or process a card.. Totally dissappointed in the service, even when another server arrived, we were still ignored. If we decide to ever go back, I diffently will NOT get the chicken salad wrap due to it does not taste like it use to ... and pray the service will be improved, reguardless how busy it gets.. No one should ever be ignored or have to wait so long for...
Read moreWell today was what anyone would call 100 percent pure chaos in downtown Mobile, Al. In lieu of hurricane Sally's mayhem, Joe Cain Cafe was no exception, the little street that the cafe is located on was severely congested with a mixture of ppl waiting to be valet parked by the gentlemen of the battle house hotel and those of us waiting to pick up our to go orders ..I entered the door of the hotel made a quick left and spilled into the open floor plan with each table filled w ppl of all walks of life. Despite the destruction and lack of power in my own corner of downtown Mobile , this atmosphere was inviting , relaxing .....I began to regret not eating in. I spotted a line almost to the door....luckily these were they waiting to place an order and I had called mine in. In the front of the line was a lovely blonde haired woman that was doing her best to satisfy the demands of a hungry impatient crowd.....she turned to me and smiled .... genuinely smiled at me.....a lady covers in towels laughingly informed me that while her position is usually HR , tonight she was doubling as a bus girl......now that's dedication !! The woman with the smile amidsr the craziness asked if I had been helped. I told her my last name and she quickly located my order. Which turned out to be the best 2 pizzas I can honestly say I've ever tasted anywhere in my whole life.....1 was the Joe Cain and the other their Italian.....so pleased with the service that I handed her a 50 and told her to keep the change . She asked if I was sure.....absolutely.... .thank you Joe Cain Cafe for opening up and letting me in from the storm and sending me home with a delicious meal . That's what I consider a shining example of Mobile Hospitatlity at it's finest .....and brightest , even now as some of us still await our power to be restored , I at least can say the light in my soul feels restored ......if that ain't comfort food , I ain't sure...
Read moreWe waltz in out of the rain. Having gone to the Battleship tourist attraction and caught in the rain, we were surprised that the park had no food. A local Google search directed me to a place nearby that was closed and boarded up. This place was open, so we wandered in. It was around 2:30 in the afternoon in downtown mobile. The bartender was the only person working the whole place, and it was a little bit busy. She was incredibly nice and gave us menus.
The tables are small, and the pizza was big.
We sat down and ordered lunch. Paris had the nachos, I had a chicken salad sandwich, Kai had a pizza, and Mike had a pita sandwich. There were two key highlights although everything we ate was good.
Let’s talk about the nachos first. They are piled high, and the plate was HUUGE. I am one of those who likes the melted cheese that is so hot that it makes some of the chips gooey. That is what was delivered! These nachos were very very good.
Next up the pizza. My son ordered their large with pepperoni and meatballs. It was so big we moved him to his own table. He thought it was so good that he finished the whole thing off in one sitting. He is a 18yr old 6’3” hungry giant, so whaddaya expect?!? However, I will state that this guy is a pizza guru. He has had pizza in over 10 states and at over 100 different pizza restaurants. So, when he says it’s good, it probably is. 🤗
The food, service, and ambiance was excellent for a in hotel dining bar. It was inexpensive, totaling $65 for four people (before tip). We would 100% eat here again. Thank you for letting the strays come...
