The overall experience was good, but with a few minor changes this would be a 5 star taco place in my opinion. The tacos tasted good, they came out quick, it was noticeable they use high quality ingredients. The salsas were also good, as well as the tortillas and chips.- once again using high quality ingredients and attention to detail. The tables were busted/cleaned quickly when guests left their table, the area where you eat is clean.
The only problems I had during my first visit (I will be going back) was that the employee taking orders was rude. It was obvious she didn't want to be working (we went on a Saturday afternoon). Typical teenage attitude that you commonly see in a work place nowadays (not enough discipline and a lack of respect).
There were two additional teenage employees staring at us the whole time we ordered and were whispering to one another and laughing while we were ordering, which was a little uncomfortable. I learned later that these two employees busted tables. There were 2 additional employees who were older just kind of walking around looking for stuff to do, in my opinion the whole front area needs 2 people, maybe 3 employees max at peak times (1 taking orders, 2 busting tables/cleaning/asking people if they need anything).
The unsweet tea tasted like an instant tea (from powder) or from a bottle/bag/box (commercially manufactured and shipped), it definitely did not taste freshly brewed.
Overall, I liked it enough to definitely want to return and I will be telling my friends and family about this place. After Hernandez Mexican Deli shut down on the square I have been looking for a family owned authentic place that serves tacos and this definitely...
Read moreI have started to come here at least once a week. Each visit reminds me as to why.
West 22 doesn't just make delicious food they make clever food. The menu is creative and thoughtful. Their use, particularly of textures is impressive.
Tacos can easily just become a receptacle of ingredients rather than a finished dish. West 22 does not fall into this trap. Their menu is varied in the best way, sharing a narrative as opposed to presenting isolated ideas. Each dish still holds its own, presenting neuance and complexity without sacrificing flavour.
Look out for their regular specials if you can't decide on what to order, they have not disappointed yet.
People may be surprised at the price per taco however this truthfully reflects quality and quantity. I am usually satisfied with two for a lunch, although I have to fight the temptation to order their great starters, often times I fail.
I am always greeted warmly when I come in and am served promptly after ordering.
The decor is welcoming and clean although I am guilty of not clearing my tray up after eating for lack of knowing where to place used dishes.
I am excited to return to try one of their fun sounding desserts. I am even more excited that at time when the commercial restaurant chains have a chokehold over dying independent restaurants, West 22 has shown why the consumer needs these places, awesome, thoughtful food and a great environment, supporting people who's love for food and hospitality shines in how and what they serve.
Come once and I am confident you will...
Read moreI’ve come to West 22 twice now, once with friends and this time alone between appointments. The ingredients are fresh, made to order and delicious. I’ve tried several tacos and none have disappointed. The corn is SO GOOD and a must try. The guac is nice and refreshing with their chips that are a little on the thicker side of restaurants style chips. It’s fine though, holds more guac that way. :) I tried the birria taco from here for the first time today (second time I’ve tried one of these, different restaurants) and I guess it’s just not for me. The beef inside is nice shredded and you can tell it’s good quality and the cheese is melty and has the perfect bite BUT I need something that packs a little more punch. The dipping broth is flavorful but doesn’t provide the punch I like. Because I think this is a personal opinion issue, no stars knocked for that. The inside is casual, fun and has nice photo opps. There is a large outside seating area that they can set up corn hole at when it’s nicer. Sat outside the last time I was here and there was no suffrage of service from being outside compared to inside as you sometimes get at restaurants. Give it a try! There will be something you like. I’m trying the nachos next time! Someone had them sitting near me and they looked fantastic!! Oh, I have to mention that they are reasonably priced as well. The pictures meal I decided to have was under $10 pre-tip. Can’t beat that for such a hearty taco and plentiful...
