I am Greek American and I live locally. I had stopped by twice, but they had not opened yet. This was my 3rd try. I had previously called to see if they would be carrying Spanakopita *(spinach and feta baked item). They said yes. I wanted to get it for take-out, as it was promoted online.
I was surprised to see NO pandemic prevention measures. The customers in line for ordering did NOT social distance. All customers and the owner and staff were unmasked.
It matters. The vaccines are far from 100%. One unmasked man was behind me by 6 inches, and was yelling out his order.
When I tried to order, the owner acted taken aback that I had a mask on. Her bio said she is old enough to know better. She declared to me, "I cannot hear you. Can you take "that thing" off?"
I repeated asking if she had Spanakopita, which is mentioned online. I then called it spinach pie, which I believe she understood better. I did NOT remove my mask.
When I left, I felt offended how this owner was bold enough to ask me to take "that thing off." I felt targeted. Does this woman know whether or not I might have a risk factor, or have an elder relative I could infect? Do I not have a right to practice pandemic prevention measures?
She told me she should have Spanakopita coming in, tomorrow morning. By the way, the staff at Publix can hear me just fine with my mask. I did not expect a side of saltiness attempting to purchase Greek food. Businesses in Myrtle Beach thrive from word of mouth, and return customers, locals and tourists. Notably, both Chipotle and the Taco eatery were not successful in making it in that space.
Greek food is a favorite. Originally, I was hoping to be a regular return customer, and to try different items, since I live close by. At this point, it seemed that Mrs. Lily Parastatidis has somehow made me feel unwelcome, and disrespected, just for wearing a health preventive mask. Maybe Mrs. Parastatidis can afford to lose customers. Sadly, I made several attempts to show up. I was an eager customer, but my attempts were not...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Opa Opa Taverna in Myrtle Beach, and my experience was nothing short of exceptional. Nestled in a bustling center on the North end of Myrtle Beach, the abundance of convenient parking made my visit a breeze. As I stepped into the spacious, beautifully inviting open space with high ceilings, I was struck by the impeccable cleanliness and inviting ambiance.
To the left, a delightful bakery greeted me, hinting at the culinary delights awaiting. The open kitchen showcased the magic happening behind the scenes, with all the food prepared right before your eyes, boasting authenticity and made in-house expertise. The extensive array of scratch-made items truly impressed me - a testament to their dedication to quality and taste.
During my multiple visits over the last few days, every meal I indulged in exceeded expectations. The gyro was a standout, accentuated by the divine tzatziki sauce. The vegetarian selection was a delightful ensemble of vibrant salads and unforgettable Russian beets, a true culinary masterpiece. Their Angus burger, earning a spot on the best burger list, was a succulent treat, and the Greek version was a unique twist that I thoroughly enjoyed.
The menu offers a fantastic variety of sides and Mediterranean dishes, showcasing the diversity of flavors and options available. And let's not forget the in-house bakery and desserts - the Mediterranean and Greek sweets were nothing short of phenomenal. What truly enhanced my experience was the warm, familial atmosphere. The owner and family were personally involved, from taking orders to preparing the food, making me feel like a part of their extended family.
Spotlessly clean and incredibly welcoming, Opa Opa Taverna is more than a restaurant; it's an inviting gathering place where you're treated like family and friends, even on your very first visit. I can't wait to return for another round of delightful flavors and heartwarming...
Read moreLet me first start saying the food is good. It’s the Greek version of chipotle (minus the toppings). Now… for the good part.
My husband, my son and myself decided to grab a quick lunch here yesterday. The man asked us what we wanted. 3 chicken rice bowls with toppings (just like chipotle… lettuce, cucumber, onion tomato, tatziki sauce). 3 rice bowls and 3 drinks came to $52. No problem. Food was good.
We are cleaning up our food and exiting the door. The lady behind the counter runs up to my husband in the middle of the restaurant and says we didn’t pay for something. We both were extremely confused and looked at each other. She said the lettuce, tomato, onion and cucumber that we added to our bowls would be an additional $15.
Woah. And I mean woah. We paid for everything together. At no point did they say this wasn’t included or it would be an extra charge. Then embarassed us in front of the entire restaurant and made it seem as if we had stolen something. She charged us an additional $15 for toppings. We paid it.
I will never. Never. Ever go back to this restaurant again. Ever. The service was absolutely horrible. And I don’t care how good the food is. With an attitude like that… never. Be aware. Ask in advance if there are any extra charges. We...
